Behavior does not occur in isolation.

The environment—including schedules, expectations, staffing patterns, communication systems, and physical surroundings—plays a significant role in influencing behavior.

Too often, organizations focus solely on changing the individual when meaningful change may begin with changing the environment.

When we improve systems, we often improve outcomes.

Every behavior serves a purpose.

Whether a behavior is helping someone gain access to something they want, communicate a need, avoid discomfort, or seek connection, understanding its function is essential.

When we focus on "why" behavior occurs rather than simply reacting to it, we create opportunities for meaningful and lasting change.

The question isn't, "Why is this happening to us?"

It's, "What is this behavior communicating?"
