I felt her absence the second I walked out to feed the bottle calves this morning. She owns this job without ever being asked twice. Today it was mine.

Here’s what bottle calf feeding actually looks like — you’ve got multiple calves, no pen, just open yard. The big one finishes before the others is over. That calf comes bulldozing through — trying to headbutt the other calves off their bottles. They’re latching onto your elbow, your leg, your hand, anything they can get their mouths on. And I knew every bit of what was coming before I walked out the door.

So I regulated before I got there. That’s the thing about chaos — it doesn’t wait for you to get yourself together. You have to bring your nervous system with you into the storm, not try to find it once you’re already in the middle of it.

Your nervous system is your foundation. You cannot build a steady life on a chaotic internal state.
Regulate first. Then walk in.

I let my morning card pull go quiet for a week. Not because I stopped believing in it. But because life got loud and I put myself last.

This morning I came back. Sat with my deck. Shuffled. And pulled a card.

Here’s what I’ve learned — devotion doesn’t require a perfect streak. Your body remembers the ritual even when your mind has been elsewhere. Five minutes. Your deck. Yourself first.

That’s not indulgence. It’s discipline, and discipline is a spiritual practice. Come back to your altar today. Even if you’ve been gone a week.

Life is the altar. Not because life is always beautiful, or every day feels aligned, or because the path is clear… Life is the altar because every messy moment, every unexpected challenge, every season of growth becomes part of the work.

The lesson isn’t to wait for perfect conditions before you heal, grow, or step into who you’re becoming. The lesson is to recognize that the ordinary moments are sacred too. It’s all part of the ceremony.

For a year I told myself I wasn’t ready. I had the cows. I had the tallow in my freezer. I had everything except the nerve to start.

So I kept buying from a stranger on TikTok Shop and ignoring the thing I already knew I needed to do. What finally made me start wasn’t confidence or a perfect plan. It was that I was using it daily and I couldn’t answer where it came from or how it was rendered — and that answer wasn’t good enough for me anymore.

So I took the bite. I figured it out. Now it’s my best seller. You don’t get ready and then start. You start and figure it out if needed

What have you been putting off because you’re waiting to feel ready?

Everyone thinks growth happens when conditions improve, the path is clear, they feel confident, and they’re finally ready.

Life doesn’t always work that way. The mud doesn’t wait. Neither does the responsibility or the opportunities. You usually have to step into it before you feel prepared. That’s why I’ve come to believe that success comes from biting off more than you can chew—and then learning how to chew it.

The next level of your life will almost always feel bigger than your current capacity. And that’s not a sign you’re on the wrong path, that’s the initiation. The work is becoming ready because you kept showing up. One uncomfortable step and difficult conversation at a time.

Life isn’t asking you to have it all figured out. It’s asking you to grow into what you’ve been called toward.

The older I get, the more I realize that every meaningful thing I’ve built started as something I wasn’t fully ready for: the ranch, motherhood (especially when I became a twin mom), business, leadership, teaching. None of it arrived when I felt prepared. It arrived first. The capacity came later.

That’s one of the reasons this quote resonates so deeply with my Life is the Altar philosophy. Life isn’t waiting for you to feel ready. Life is constantly initiating you into the next version of yourself.

Opportunity arrives before the confidence.
Responsibility arrives before the certainty.
The calling arrives before the roadmap.

Then the work becomes learning to carry it. That’s where discipline becomes a spiritual practice. That’s where devotion matters more than motivation. That’s where you discover that you don’t get what you want—you get what you match. Every challenge, opportunity, setback, and success is part of the initiation.

Life is the altar.

What are you preparing for?

Everyone talks about manifestation. Very few people talk about stewardship. The hummingbirds don’t appear because I wished for them. They arrive because something was made ready to receive them.

The same is true in life. Healthy relationships, business opportunities, financial growth, peace, healing... Most of what we call “manifestation” is actually preparation meeting timing.

Life is the Altar.
The question isn’t what you’re trying to attract.

The question is: What are you becoming capable of holding when it arrives?

Every one of these calves is growing, and not one of them is worried about whether the calf beside it weighs more. Not one of them is questioning whether it’s behind. They’re simply doing what nature designed them to do: grow.

As humans, we make growth far more complicated. We compare our healing to someone else’s. Our business to someone else’s. Our marriage, our finances, our spiritual journey, our body, our life.

We look at someone else’s bloom and decide something must be wrong with our roots. But nature doesn’t work that way.

These calves aren’t finished yet, because they aren’t supposed to be finished yet. Their job right now is to grow. And maybe that’s your job too. Maybe your job right now is to build foundations, strengthen roots, and trust the process. The bloom gets the attention. The roots do the work.

The flowers don’t spend their days wondering if they’re late. They don’t compare themselves to what’s blooming across the field. They don’t force themselves to blossom before the season arrives.

They root. They prepare. They respond to the conditions they’re given. Then, when the time is right, they bloom.

Yet so many of us walk around carrying the belief that we’re behind. Behind in healing. Behind in business. Behind in motherhood. Behind in becoming who we’re meant to be.

Nature teaches something different. Life is the altar. Every season has purpose—even the ones where growth is happening beneath the surface where nobody can see it.

These flowers reminded me of something I think many of us need to hear: Nature never rushes what it’s becoming.

Don’t ever forget, the bloom isn’t the miracle. The preparation is. For weeks, maybe months, the plant has been gathering resources, growing roots, strengthening its foundation, and responding to the season it’s in. Then one day, what was happening beneath the surface becomes visible. And it seemed so “all of the sudden.”

We’re often so quick to judge ourselves for not being “there” yet. Whether it’s not healed enough, not successful enough, or not far enough along. But maybe you’re not behind. Maybe you’re in a season of rooting.

One of the core teachings of Life is the Altar is that everything is sacred—including the seasons that don’t look productive from the outside. The unseen work matters. The daily tending matters. The quiet maintenance matters.

Because nature teaches us that the season determines the strategy. You don’t demand blooms in spring before the roots are ready. You don’t harvest before the fruit has formed. Trust the season you’re in. Tend what is yours to tend. The bloom will come when it’s time.
