9 months of planning, prepping, supporting a changing body, monthly/bi-monthly/weekly appointments dedicated to observing mom and fetal well-being.

Labor and delivery spent at home or in the hospital with a birth team, hospital staff, midwife or doctor putting energy into insuring a safe birth. The next 2 days being checked on regularly.

Then comes postpartum, where you see your OB 6 weeks later for a quick vaginal exam and clearance to have s*x again…….

The postpartum period is one of the longest medical events of a woman’s life, and yet, is dismissed to a brief checkup weeks after breaking yourself open to birth an entire human from your body. The math ain’t mathin’.

When women aren’t prepared for or supported in this sensitive time between birth and their new normal they don’t heal as well. They don’t bond with their baby as easily. They don’t restore their mineral and nutrient stores properly. They don’t find the deep rest that their body and soul desperately desires to fully recover from growing, birthing and sustaining life.

Postpartum mamas - you deserve more. More help, more support, more love and more care. You don’t have to do postpartum alone or in survival mode. Midwifery care is available to you regardless what provider you delivered with or how long it’s been since bringing your baby earth side.

A midwife and her daily multivitaminšŸ˜Ž

This blend contains dandelion root, nettle, oat straw, milk thistle and alfalfa.

It’s packed full of vitamins, minerals and helps calm the nerves.

I’ve found my body prefers liquid forms of ā€œsupplementsā€ over capsules and a strong cup of tea is the OG form of supplementing and nourishing the body.

The postpartum period lasts waaayyyy longer than our culture recognizes or respects.

It takes months for a woman’s hormones to regulate and for her body to heal and recover after birth. It takes even longer for her to find her new rhythm and new normal.

If a mother doesn’t have quality support or has multiple children to care for, it’s easy for her to neglect her own health and well-being.

Extended Postpartum Support is for the moms who desire more energy and joy in their motherhood experience. Who want help knowing what direction to head on their path to rediscovering themselves. Who desire guidance with supplements and lifestyle changes to optimize their health. Who need support around releasing stuck emotions or trauma around their birth experience.

All mothers deserve to feel grounded and cared for. There’s midwifery care for that.šŸ’œ

✨Hi, I’m AndI, and I’m a midwife that doesn’t attend births.

Not because I don’t love witnessing and supporting badass women in delivering their babies at home, but because I believe midwives can support families in many other ways in addition to attending their births.

Midwives have always been the OG healers and medicine women. The go-to gal with the remedy for whatever ails you. They’re great listeners, have in-depth knowledge of the human body, and have a passion to care for and help others.

Barefoot Midwifery doesn’t offer birth services but we do offer lots of options for families and women desiring more intentional, grounded and healing experiences from preconception to years after the postpartum period.

You don’t have to give birth with a midwife to heal with one.✨

This was me on Mother’s Day, 4 years ago.

I had been up all night at a wild home birth where; I had to get mom out of the tub due to low fetal heart tones, pulled baby out, managed a massive hemorrhage, inspected the craziest placenta I had ever seen, sutured a perineum solo with a camping headlamp bc my assistant got called to another birth, then baby’s SpO2 level started to look like s**t so I put baby on O2 and transferred mom and baby to the ER.

I went home and sobbed in bed bc I was also grieving the death of a dear friend who had lost her battle w cancer, leaving two young daughters behind, only 2 months earlier.

I pushed that all down and was as present as I could be with my kids and family. Celebrating a day that’s supposed to revolve around motherhood. Looking at this photo you would have no idea what I was experiencing only 8 hrs earlier.

Moms are badass.
Midwives are badass.
Women are badass.

We make the world go round.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women in the world, no matter if their babies are on the other side or they’re on the other side themselves. To all the mamas that show up every day even when it’s super hard-You’re amazing.
