We're glad to welcome Byrne Lee, MD, FACS, to Stanford CARE!

Dr. Lee is a surgical oncologist who specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. He has dedicated his clinical practice to the surgical management of metastatic disease, particularly to the liver and peritoneum. He has expertise in delivering regional cancer therapies such as heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) and leads the Regional Cancer Therapies program at Stanford. The program implements and develops novel treatment strategies for patients affected with peritoneal malignancies and oligometastatic disease to the liver. His research focus is on clinical outcomes of multidisciplinary management for gastric, hepatobiliary, sarcoma, and peritoneal surface malignancies.

We're glad to welcome Jean Oak, MD, PhD, to Stanford CARE!

Dr. Oak's research and clinical interests include clinical assay development for tumor immunophenotyping, lymphocyte subset monitoring, and immunotherapy target antigen assessment in a variety of hematologic and immunologic disorders. As director of a clinical flow cytometry laboratory, Dr. Oak oversees the design, validation, and implementation of various immunophenotyping assays in addition to ensuring quality assurance and regulatory compliance for CLIA certification. Her work advances precision diagnostics and personalized treatment strategies for patients with blood disorders and cancers.

Congratulations to Dr. Possu Huang on receiving a Stanford CARE Seed Grant, "Translational Therapeutics for Lung Cancer in People Who Have Never Smoked," for his study, "Immunotherapeutics for EGFR mutations in Asian non-smoker lung cancer."

This specialized grant is co-sponsored by Stanford CARE and the Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) to support the development of novel therapeutic entities (NTEs) for lung cancer.

Stanford CARE Seed Grants empower investigators to pursue their most promising research ideas — nurturing innovation in Asian health that is uniquely positioned at Stanford. These grants support cross-disciplinary collaboration and the collection of pilot data that enables researchers to compete for follow-on funding from organizations such as the NIH, AHA, and private and philanthropic partners.

This approach has been a proven strategy for launching impactful Asian health research and building the evidence base needed to scale discoveries.
