Silver Sobriety

Silver Sobriety At Silver Sobriety, we provide older adults with affordable recovery services for alcohol and drug addiction.

Please donate to support our Seniors in our community and Silver Sobriety’s outreach. Why is Silver Sobriety better for seniors than existing recovery programs? We minimize barriers by focusing on the unique needs of seniors.
• Age Specific Care: We only serve people ages 50 and older. Older adults will connect with their peers and work on issues unique to their age group. This approach increases

the likelihood of success.
• The Right Pace: Our program moves at a pace that is fitting for older adults.
• The Right Length: Research shows that longer programs lead to better outcomes. We provide a continuum of care across providers, health plans, medical professionals and counties that provides support from an acute care model to continuing care.
• Flexible: Because we are a non-clinical model, our program is not dictated by insurance companies and unnecessary medical over-regulation. This allows us to be client-centered and flexible.
• Reachable: Transportation will be provided at no cost to those within a 15 mile radius of Stillwater, MN.
• Affordable: Out of pocket costs for the Silver Sobriety program is $4,500
• Accessible: We strive to remove barriers to recovery and never turn anyone away based on ability to pay. We believe that no matter your age, you can overcome substance abuse with the right support and resources.

Maybe it started as a glass of wine to unwind. Or a drink to take the edge off a hard day. For many adults 50+, it can quietly become something more — and that's okay to acknowledge. Heavy drinking among older adults has risen significantly in recent years, and age-related changes in our bodies make alcohol's effects even harder to recognize. You don't have to have 'hit rock bottom' to deserve support. If any part of this resonates — for yourself or someone you love — Silver Sobriety is here. A program built specifically for adults 50+, with compassion, flexibility, and real understanding.

Addiction in adults 50+ often goes unnoticed — even by the person experiencing it. Some signs to be aware of:

🔹 Needing more alcohol or drugs to feel the same effects
🔹 Drinking to manage stress, anxiety, or loneliness
🔹 Hiding drinking or drug habits from friends and family
🔹 Withdrawal symptoms like shakes, sweats, or anxiety
🔹 Increasing isolation or declining self-care

After years in recovery, we know the truth of it: "You alone can do it, but you can't do it alone." The 12 Steps aren't a chapter we finished — they're a way of life that continues to support our mental health, one day at a time. Check out this great, quick read by the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation: https://www.hazeldenbettyford.org/articles/12-steps-mental-health?utm_source=LinkedIn

The honesty, humility, forgiveness, open-mindedness, courage, and self-discipline encouraged in the 12 Steps are pathways to improving mental health.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and for those in recovery, mental health and sobriety are deeply connected.

Research shows that nearly half of people with a substance use disorder also experience a co-occurring mental health condition. Yet both are often treated in isolation.

At Silver Sobriety, we believe in treating the whole person. Recovery isn't just about abstaining — it's about building emotional resilience, finding community, and addressing the roots beneath the surface.

This month, we're committed to opening that conversation. Whether you're newly sober, years into your journey, or supporting someone you love, your mental health matters.

I am someone who never had a problem with alcohol earlier in life. Being somewhat of a hippie, I did minor drugs occasionally throughout my life with no issues. The older I got, the less access I had to illegal substances, and the more I started to drink. But things never got out of control – until...

"For me, treatment was only the first step. I needed something more to keep me sober and help me change the way I was living my life. I found the answer in the fellowship of men and women who were just like me." — Joe, Silver Sobriety client

Recovery doesn't end when treatment does. That's why Silver Sobriety exists — to walk alongside older adults before, during, and after treatment.

Our 6–12-month program meets three times a week and is available both in person and virtually. No insurance required. Scholarships available.

Every senior deserves access to recovery — regardless of income.

Silver Sobriety was founded on that belief. We're a nonprofit, and our scholarship program can cover up to 80% of program costs for clients who qualify.

That's only possible because of donors like you.

When you give to Silver Sobriety, you're not just funding a program — you're helping a grandparent, a neighbor, a friend rediscover their life.

Did you know that alcohol and drug addiction can affect anyone — including adults 50 and older?

Many people assume Substance Use Disorder is a "younger person's problem." But research shows that older adults face unique challenges: they're more likely to drink at home, live alone, and have their struggles go unnoticed.

At Silver Sobriety, we were built specifically for adults 50+. Our nonresidential, 12-Step-based recovery program helps seniors rebuild their lives — affordably, with community, and without judgment.

You don't have to wait until you "hit bottom." Help is available right now.
