Monday's Moments that Matter! (On Tuesday. Hope you had a lovely Labor Day!)

The owner of Whispered the Heart in Stockbridge sells fabulous items that she makes, showcases pieces from other local artists (like my book), and sell things that just make her smile. It is a LOVELY place to be.

She mentioned to me that she hadn't had a day off in 25 days, so here I am, working at the store.

Yesterday, someone came in looking for a thank you card. We have many, and he found one that was just what he needed. Small purchase; it was what he needed.

As he left the store, which had become nicely busy, he shouted across the crowd, "I appreciate you!" to me.

A thank you from the guy buying a thank you card. Made me smile.

It was a small moment, and it matters.

A HUGE congrats to the Team for being nominated for a Wildscreen Panda Award!

I am so glad I could play even the tiniest role in this awe-filled adventure. I loved helping to megaphone about this wonderful show.

And if you haven't gone on a wowsabout yet this summer, it's not too late! Get your camping gear and go, and maybe, just maybe, you'll run into Roxy and Ronald along the way!

Monday's Moments that Matter

Shhhh... do you hear it?

No?

Yes, you do! That's it.

It's quiet.

My house is quiet.

The kids are away in school. (Shane's doing a study abroad; Tatum is literally moving into her dorm at Madison right now.)

Steve is helping Tatum with the move.

Dog is sleeping.

It's quiet.

And while I don't always want it to be quiet, I'm enjoying it right now.

A little quiet is nice. It's good.

Monday's Moments That Matter!

These posts have changed my Mondays.

Sometimes they make me feel tremendous gratitude and happiness; like today when I couldn't pick which moment to choose:

😍 🥳 😂 The conversation I just had with my neighbor Roz when she lovingly and kindly asked about my kids leaving, and how I was doing with it?

🐇 Watching the adorable baby bunny as it hopped away from our house, who luckily was seen by me but not my dog, Tobin!

💦 😱 Going to the water park with my kids and husband last week where I think we may have been the happiest "kids" in the park. I'm so glad that my screaming to the high heavens when I thought we all might die on the Humunga Half Pipe (which is nothing like the half pipes we had at ESPN) made all of my family laugh so hard!"

My Mondays have become a day I look forward to!

AND -

Sometimes I kinda dread doing the posts. I think:

😵‍💫 Where there any moments to choose?

🤐 Will people read my post and think, "Oh my god. Shut up already!"

👻 Will no one read my post?

⏰️ Why am I wasting my time?

In those moments, I tell Blanche (my inner critic) to be quiet and remember that there are always moments, sometimes I just have to search my memory for them, and moments are really for me.

If they inspire anyone else, well that's gravy!

And I LOVE gravy!

Monday's Moments that Matter!

My mom, Jeanne Campbell, has always loved storms. When they'd come, we'd be rushed outside to greet them.

So when my cousin, Joe Campbell, was visiting this weekend, and a storm started brewing, I pushed us outside to watch it come in, and headed to the landing by the lake.

As we stood there, watching the rain really start coming down and feeling the wind really picking up, Joe looked at me and said,

"Hmmm... Do you think we should go inside?"

With 100% hubris I replied,

"I've never actually been struck by lightening, and don't know anyone who has, but sure, we can go inside."

And back up the stairs and inside we went.

I couldn't help it though; and was drawn back outside and onto the porch. Honestly, I thought about going back to the landing. And then I heard the loudest thunder I've ever experienced in my life, and saw the closest bolt of lightening I've ever seen. It looked like fire!

No, I did not get hit and I'm guessing the lake didn't either. But it was a good reminder of the power of Mother Nature, and that my hubris really can put me in harms way.

It was also a lovely moment of remembering great times with my mom, and creating great new times with my cousin!

Hope you have a great week!

Monday's Moments that Matter!

The musicians were first people I saw wearing the red rose ...

URT! Stopping my previously planned post.

It was going to be very deep and introspective, and create action, and possibly help me get a story on Good Morning America, but I've been overwhelmed by a new moment that mattered. (I'm still using the visual from my original idea; it's pretty.)

What stopped me in my tracks?

I'm in the lobby of a friend's apartment in Brooklyn. We're here to see chosen family today. So excited! And I'm sitting in the lobby now so I don't wake up my kids.

I just looked up and saw this little kid, 2? 3? run up to William, the doorman, and do a very elaborate fist bump: first he did it, then he did it with William and his Iron Man doll. The kid beamed.

Based on the ease the kid had with the whole routine, it looks like William creates that same moment with the kid, and probably another 100 like him, every time the kids comes in or out.

William greets them, pays attention to them, makes them feel seen, heard and celebrated. And they shine!

If we all felt seen, heard, and celebrated, the world is a different place.

And FYI - it seems to make William feel seen, heard and celebrated too!

Happy Monday, all!

Monday's Moments that Matter!

Last week I took my youngest to SOAR, University of WI, Madison's version of orientation. I'm trying remember all of the incredible/awful puns they used. (I know you are hoping I don't!)

The Moments that Mattered were plentiful:

🥳 My child running into her roommate by chance at Union South, and then connecting later for dinner just the two of them.

🤭 Unknowingly being at the table next to a good friend from high school, and then getting to sit with him and his wife while our kids were surprisingly put into a group together.

🥰 My child telling I should invite my best friend from grade school to come up to Madison to see us and it actually happening!

☕️ Inviting a professor from when I went to school at Madison (a loooooong time ago) for coffee and his being able to join me.

🪽 Getting to have a great conversation with Carren Martin who runs SOAR to talk about how they are setting students and their families to succeed, and how her team was so welcoming and kind while doing so.

What's the through line? People! People connecting and showing up and having fun and being willing to take energy to make good things happen.

SO lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderful people!

And, of course, I have to end this note as they would end everything at SOAR,

On Wisconsin!

UW–Madison Had so much fun SOARing with my incoming freshman! And thank you Cate for the ice cream at the Terrace!

Monday's Moment that Matters

Today is my bday. (Thanks! I can feel your good wishes.)

I could do 100 posts today about lovely moments that have mattered to me this week. My cup overfloweth. I'm going to pick one that stands out but I reserve the right to do more!

Two years ago I invited friends to join me at the yoga class at Tanglewood that happens while the BSO practices, and it was magical. Last Saturday, I invited people to do it again.

As I walked into Tanglewood, I looked into the parking lot, and was completely floored as a NYC friend came walking towards me with open arms. I was very confused as I hadn't reached out to her.

"Hi!" she proclaimed as we hugged. "I've been talking with you in my head for the last 30 minutes hoping this would happen. I didn't call because I wasn't sure where you were or what you were doing. But I really wanted to run into each you like this!!!

Do you come to the class every week?"

No.
I do not do it every week.
I actually haven't come since I did it two years ago when she happened to be in the area and she joined in.
I never expected to see her.

AND I LOVE IT WHEN THESE THINGS HAPPEN!

Here's to being open to what can happen,
recognizing it when it does happen,
and celebrating it with others!

Thank you to Seema, Hilary and Lauren for joining the class for my bday celebration. So wonderful to be surrounded by the energy of the orchestra, nature, and good friends.

And - to those of you saying how awesome it is that the "universe" is listening when things like this happen, I say yes! It is awesome.

But that's not how I spell it. It's the
YOUniverse!
You are a part of what you make happen!

And we all can be a part of moments that matter!
