We decided to detour from our regular scheduled programming and go on an adventure today.
Over the last several months, the ladies have been working with Bailey through Purdue Extension as part of our Cooking Life Skills Program. She has been teaching them how to grow vegetables from seed, and after lots of watering, patience, and care, our tomatoes and peppers officially outgrew their pots. So, we loaded up and headed to Lowe’s.
Lowe’s has always been a wonderful community partner to Ruth House, and today was no different. Adam, the store manager, helped us every step of the way, making sure we had exactly what we needed for a raised garden bed. Bob helped us get our lumber squared away, and Jeff took great care of Mel and Nish in the garden center, helping them gather gloves, shovels, tomato cages, and all the little things that make a project like this come together.
But here’s my favorite part. 😁
We needed 20 bags of soil to complete our project. As Adam learned more about who we are and what we do, he simply said he wanted to help. Before we knew it, Lowe’s had donated $200 worth of soil.
Talk about a God moment. 🙌
One of the things we try to teach at Ruth House is that recovery doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in community. It happens when people believe in you before you fully believe in yourself. It happens when businesses, organizations, churches, volunteers, and neighbors come together and say, “We’re rooting for you.”
Today the ladies got to see that firsthand. They got to see that there are people in this community who genuinely care about their success. We’re grateful for Bailey and Purdue Extension, for Lowe’s and their incredible team, and for every person who chooses to be part of the story God is writing through Ruth House.
Now, enjoy the goofy pictures. Recovery at its finest. 🤍
