The effects of meditation on the brain are undeniable! In an 8-week Harvard study, people who meditated an average of 27 minutes a day showed measurable brain changes: more gray matter in the hippocampus (memory and learning), less in the amygdala (your stress and fear center). The non-meditating control group showed zero change. In a Wake Forest study, it took just four 20-minute sessions, 80 minutes total, to cut pain intensity by 40% and pain unpleasantness by 57%. That's roughly double the effect of morphine, which typically reduces pain ratings by about 25%. When researchers put long-term Buddhist meditators in an EEG, their brains showed a dramatically higher ratio of gamma-wave activity than non-meditators, even at rest, before a meditation session had even started. Years of practice had measurably rewired their baseline brain state.

Meditation works, you just have to start! "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". Lao Tzu

Last call, Rooted in Balance: Fall Equinox Retreat has ONE spot left. This is the one: a private log home on 60 acres at the base of Mt. Shasta, days of ceremony, sound, and sacred pause while the season turns. Hike to Heart Lake, stand under Faery Falls, float on Lake Siskiyou, journey into Pluto's Cave, and close it out with a meditative sound journey on the mountain. Every meal, excursion, and night of lodging is covered once you arrive. If you've been feeling the pull to pause, reset, and come back to yourself before the season shifts, this is it, and it's almost gone. Come experience the magic of Mt. Shasta!

I've been reading cards since I was given my first deck at 19. Looking through the traditional tarot cards, I felt familiarity with the images and symbolism. I also had old religious programming come up right away. At the time, I was skeptical of anything religious or "spiritual." Still, I asked a question, mixed the cards, did a simple three-card spread, and looked up the meanings. I didn't like the answer, but deep down, I knew it was true. My skepticism remained, but my curiosity grew. I shuffled again, this time in a way that I knew would give me a different outcome (because I didn't like the answer). I pulled two of the same three cards. Wow, I said to myself, what are the odds of that?

Again I drew, and again received the same message from one of the three cards. Down the rabbit hole I went, reading books, taking classes, learning spreads, the symbolism, understanding the fool's journey (much like the hero’s journey), and the major and mundane aspects the fool encounters along the way. Fast forward 36 years, this fool is still reading cards, still learning, and still growing. Reading cards is not to make predictions, but to look at potentials, to read the energy. We have free will to make choices, and we make choices every day that determine how we stay stuck, step forward, and choose another path.

Interested in learning more? Book a reading and see for yourself how the power of intuition, symbolism, and information connects to the energy at play in your life.

This new moon is in the sign of Cancer, and if you've been feeling extra tender, extra homesick for something you can't name, extra aware of what "safety" actually means to you, that's not a coincidence. Cancer new moons ask us to look at our sense of home, our foundations, and NOT our five-year plans. Stop and let yourself actually feel what's asking to be felt. Join me tomorrow night for Ceremony & Sound at Sol Health Yoga in Puyallup, WA and come home to yourself. I'll be offering a space weather update for this new moon in Cancer, along with sound and tools to help you move through what's coming up. Tuesday, July 14th, 2026, from 7:45–9:00 PM. Bring a mat, bring yourself. Dress light, the studio will be warm! Registration required, space is limited, there's still time to grab a spot. $25 donation.

Unlocking Energy Flow: The Foundations of Reiki and Mindful Movement

Reiki and mindful movement are two practices that, when combined, support balanced energy flow and deeper self-awareness. Reiki, a Japanese energy healing technique, uses gentle touch & intention to support the body’s natural healing processes. Rooted in the concept of ki (or chi), Reiki helps clear energetic blockages and restore harmony on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.

Mindful movement includes practices such as yoga, qigong, and somatic exploration that emphasize intentional movement, breath awareness, and presence. These disciplines help cultivate body intelligence, release stored tension, and enhance circulation of vital energy. Unlike conventional exercise, mindful movement isn’t about performance, it’s about listening deeply to your body’s signals.

Together, Reiki and mindful movement complement each other by preparing the energetic body for healing and prolonging the benefits of a session. When you integrate slow, breath-led movement with Reiki principles, you create a practice that supports resilience, clarity, and long-term well-being.
