🌱 Honoring Indigenous Roots of Healing
The practices we value in modern wellness, from mindfulness and connection to nature to the power of communal support and storytelling, often have deep roots in Indigenous cultures worldwide.
We must acknowledge that Westernized therapy and wellness often borrow and appropriate mental health and healing modalities that have sustained Indigenous Peoples for generations.
Let’s take a moment to reflect:
🌱 Acknowledge the Source: True healing requires recognizing the originators. When you engage in practices like deep, intentional breathing or walking in nature for grounding, remember that these are ancient, traditional ways of knowing.
🌱 Decolonize Wellness: We can be more respectful by seeking out and supporting Indigenous healers, elders, and educators who are sharing these practices from within their own cultural context.
🌱 Respect the Sacred: Many practices, such as certain ceremonies, songs, or the use of specific plant medicines, are sacred and should not be commodified or practiced outside of their cultural context.
Let’s move beyond appropriation toward appreciation, recognition, and genuine respect for the knowledge and resilience of Indigenous Peoples.
