Throughout August, Family First and Aveanna recognize Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness Month. This important observance provides an opportunity to increase understanding of SMA, raise awareness about the condition, and honor the individuals and families whose lives are impacted by it.

SMA is a genetic neuromuscular disorder that gradually weakens the muscles responsible for movement and everyday activities. It can affect functions such as walking, eating, and breathing. In the United States, SMA is estimated to affect approximately one in every 15,000 births.

This month, we join communities across the country in recognizing those affected by SMA, celebrating their resilience, and encouraging greater awareness, education, and support for individuals living with the condition.

Today is National Disability Independence Day, a time to recognize the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law in 1990. This landmark legislation helped advance accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities across the country.

Family First and Aveanna are proud to honor the lasting impact of the ADA and the positive difference it has made in the lives of millions of Americans by promoting greater independence, dignity, and access to care and support.

Today is International Self-Care Day! This annual observance highlights the importance of prioritizing self-care as part of a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being.

Celebrated on July 24 (7/24), the date serves as a reminder that self-care is something we can practice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it's maintaining a balanced diet, staying physically active, getting adequate rest, or supporting your mental health, small daily habits can make a meaningful difference in your overall wellness.

Throughout his Aveanna journey, Namari has made incredible progress while receiving care for complex medical needs. When his family prepared for a major life transition after the end of their military service, maintaining continuity of care was a top priority.

Through collaboration and communication, multiple Aveanna teams came together behind the scenes to coordinate a seamless transition of care for Namari. This ensured he would continue receiving the skilled nursing support he depends on without interruption.

Aveanna is proud to support military families like Namari's wherever life takes them. Learn more about our comprehensive care by visiting https://pulse.ly/u7u2zntgsi.

"Regardless of your disability, you determine your abilities."

For Aveanna nurse Lakeisha, Disability Pride Month took on a personal meaning in 2018 when she became an amputee. After years as a nurse, Lakeisha witnessed firsthand the determination of her patients as they faced challenges with strength and optimism. She adopted this mindset for herself when she began to navigate her own disability journey.

"As someone who has experienced disability personally, it brings a level of empathy when I care for my patients at Aveanna," said Lakeisha. "My patient, Anya, is tough as nails and doesn't let anything get to her. She inspires me every day to do the same because regardless of your disability, YOU determine your abilities."

This Disability Pride Month, we celebrate individuals like Lakeisha and Anya who remind us that strength, determination, and individuality come in many forms. At Aveanna, we're proud to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging while supporting the unique journeys of our patients and employees. Happy Disability Pride Month!

Happy Independence Day!

For 250 years, America has been mission-driven, guided by principles and values that call us to serve, to innovate, and to build a better future together. In many ways, those same ideals are at the heart of Aveanna, Family First Homecare's parent company.

This Fourth of July, we'd like to thank our caregivers and clinicians who are taking care of our patients and their families. Their devotion helps increase independence and allows those we serve to thrive in the comfort of their own homes.
