This week, our Area Director, Michelle, was in Columbia for a meeting of the South Carolina Su***de Prevention Coalition. This group of leaders in the mental health and su***de prevention space from across the state is aligning together to draft a strategic plan for an action and solution based approach to ***de across all corners of South Carolina.

Also on this Coalition are Helen Pridgen, former AFSP-SC AD, and Eileen Schell, former AFSP-SC Board Chair. Helen's work in su***de prevention in South Carolina is legendary, and Eileen's work with Mental Health America of South Carolina is inspiring. We are lucky to be able to continue our work with AFSP-SC alumni 💙

AFSP SC is excited to wish congratulations to the USC Upstate Women's Softball for winning the 2026 Big South Championship! And GOOD LUCK to USC Upstate Men's Baseball as they begin their journey in the field of 64 teams competing for the ⚾️ 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship ⚾️ starting this weekend!

Playing a sport in high school or college is great for your physical and mental health and can help you feel connected to your peers — plus, it can just be fun. Sports at a high level of competition can come with added pressure, though, as student athletes juggle schoolwork and studying, other extracurriculars, social life, and more. There are ways to make the juggling act easier. By taking care of yourself on and off the field or court, you can be on top of your game and your mental health.

We were proud to walk together at the USC Upstate Out of the Darkness Campus Walk this past spring and recognize their commitment to the mental health of all their students.
