Beth Anne King

Beth Anne King, 42, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Union Hospital, surrounded by her family after a twelve-year battle with cancer. She was born on July 21, 1983, in Terre Haute, to Terry William King and Teresa Anne (Goracke) King.

Beth is survived by her parents, Terry and Teresa King; her son, Jace King; brothers, Brent King and Dan King (Susan); nephew, Henry King; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; best friend, Jess Lipkins; and cats, Kendra and Tootsie.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Barbara and Wendell Morgan and Georgia and Robert King; cousin, Larry Goracke; uncle, Ronnie Van Gundy; and friend, Michael “Crabby” Crabtree.

Beth attended Lost Creek Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High, and Terre Haute North, graduating in 2002. She was active in Brownies and Girl Scouts, earning both the Silver Award and Gold Award. Being the athlete in the family (…sorry Dan and Brent) Beth enjoyed playing youth softball at the Glenn Center, volleyball and basketball during junior high, and continued playing volleyball throughout high school. She worked summer breaks as a lifeguard for local swimming pools including Voorhees Park and Sheridan Park. From a young age, Beth never ignored an animal in distress, especially turtles on roadways. She often surprised her parents by adding new family members, including dogs, cats, pigs, turtles, and just about anything else she felt needed a home.

She had training as a massage therapist and worked as a hostess at Cracker Barrel. For several years, Beth owned and operated Cranky’s, her own restaurant and pool hall located in the Twelve Points area. She turned it into a warm, comfortable, and family-friendly hangout for anyone visiting, including the local community and the pool players from all over.

Beth was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She received the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation at Holy Rosary. Beth never failed to contribute one of her homemade dishes to the dinners and events put on by the Holy Rosary community at Schelley Hall.

Beth was an avid sports fan, especially of the Kansas City Chiefs, the team her family has rooted for since the 1960s. She was also a dedicated pool player, convincing her father, Terry, to play in the local pool leagues with her. She loved to play cards with family, especially her mother, grandmother, and brothers. Over the years she always kept access to a capable camera, documenting family and nature and then sharing the results with friends and family. Most recently, she was seen capturing nephew Henry’s JV baseball at-bats for Terre Haute North.

Beth’s favorite thing was to spend time as a mother and share experiences with her son, Jace. She loved him with all her heart and planned many fun adventures for them. They would go swimming at Cataract Falls after jumping into the water from the high banks, go-kart racing, visit the wonders of Casey, IL, visit family in St. Louis, and take many other impromptu excursions. The two of them created more memories with a trip to Hawaii in 2023. Jace especially enjoyed visiting the WWII historic sites, including Pearl Harbor. Jace was her pride and joy and always made her “mama heart” proud.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service taking place at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with visitation an hour prior to Mass. In accordance with Beth’s wishes, cremation will follow, and she will be laid to rest at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a dinner arranged by Friends of Holy Rosary at Schelley Hall in Seelyville after Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Holy Rosary or to the Terre Haute Humane Society.

What is one memory that always makes you smile when you think of someone special?

Melvin "Skip" E. Evans, Jr.

Melvin "Skip" E. Evans, Jr., 81, of Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at his residence. He was born on December 22, 1944, in Terre Haute to Melvin E. Evans, Sr. and Gertrude E. Boland Evans.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Patrice Bacon Evans; sons, Christopher Evans (Brenda) and Eric Donovan (Nichole); grandchildren, Olivia Donovan (J.D. Fahnestock), Casey Bowyer (James), Mia Stoffel, Isabella Donovan, and Kaden Evans; great grandchildren, Harlow, Kingston, and Vivianne Fahnestock and Noel Bowyer; niece, Tammy Evans Divine (Mark-deceased); and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Donna Evans.

Skip Evans graduated from Schulte High School in 1962 and attended Indiana State University before joining the United States Navy, where he served as a Morse Code Operator in Misawa, Japan, during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, he worked as a pharmaceutical representative before becoming manager of Anderson's Medical Products, where he was dedicated to improving patient care. More importantly, he married the love of his life, Ann Patrice Bacon Evans. Together they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage, raising two amazing sons and building a life centered on faith, family, and love. It was not uncommon to see the two of them holding hands, enjoying life's simple moments together, and demonstrating the deep affection and companionship that defined their relationship.

A man of many talents and interests, Skip was an active member of St. Ann and St. Benedict Catholic Churches and shared his love of music by playing guitar with the St. Ann choir for more than 30 years. His great work as a photographer was admired through his involvement with the Wabash Valley Art Guild. Skip found joy in nature observing wildlife and caring for the many animals that visited his back yard. He was an avid reader, lifelong learner, and master of word puzzles who rarely met a challenge he couldn't solve. His family knew him as a devoted husband, father, and beloved "Poppie." Others knew him as a passionate fan of Elvis Presley and The Beatles, a gifted storyteller, and even the legendary "squirrel whisperer." To all who knew him, Skip was truly one of a kind—a man whose curiosity, humor, kindness, and wit left a lasting impression.

Donald Lee Hadley

Donald Lee Hadley went to be with his Lord on May 26, 2026. He will be greatly missed by his four children, Bonnie Hadley, Don Hadley, Laura F**g (Gary F**g), and Jody Romig (John Romig). He was adored and will be missed by his nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom lovingly referred to him as Poppy or Poppy Great. Don was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Judy, his sister, Norma Jean Wittelle, and a great granddaughter, Lillian Elaine Rugenstein.

Don was born in Tangier, Indiana to Reatha (DeBaun) Hadley on November 8, 1937. As a young boy, he lived in Tangier, Indiana with his grandparents whom he lovingly referred to as “mommy and daddy” until their deaths when he was seven years old. He then lived with his single mom in Terre Haute, but always looked forward to returning to “the farm” in Tangier during the summer months to play with his cousins. While in Terre Haute, he attended school at Davis Park Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High and then Wiley High School.

Upon graduating from high school, Don attended Indiana Teachers College for a degree in business at the urging of his mom and step-father. Don had no interest in business, however, and often had an art book slipped inside the business textbook. He eventually pursued and received an art degree while also pursuing the love of his life, Judy. They eventually married in 1960 and Don accepted a teaching position at a high school in Michigan. The following year, they returned to Terre Haute for a teaching position at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School where he spent the next 37 years teaching drawing and painting to the students there. Additionally, he took many part-time jobs to supplement his modest income. He worked at Stran Steel, the Tribune Star and Schultz shoe department at various times over the years.

While a teacher by day, Don would spend any available time pursuing his own career in art. He was well known for his realistic paintings and won numerous awards at exhibitions across the state. Most notable was the Hoosier Salon and the Indiana Artists Exhibit in Indianapolis, Indiana. His paintings have hung in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capital Building, the Swope Art Gallery, and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. Don is also known for his restoration of the murals by Gilbert Wilson that can be seen when entering the main doors of Woodrow Wilson Middle School. He was later commissioned to paint murals for the vestibule at Woodrow Wilson.

Don was involved in creating and completing many sets for school plays as well as church events at First Assembly of God, First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, and Ellettsville Christian Church.

In addition to his love for God, Don had a heart for those in need as well as a deep love of animals. Don also stressed the importance of family and he, along with his wife, Judy, raised four children who have a deep love and commitment to one another.

Don’s family invites those who knew him to a memorial service celebrating his life on Saturday, June 27th at 5:00 with visitation beginning at 3:00. The service will be held at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home at 605 South 25th Street in Terre Haute, Indiana. If you would like to make a contribution to the local Humane Society or to Southern Care Hospice in lieu of flowers these were organizations that he supported because of his love for animals and his love for the staff that helped care for him.

Jean Anne Mesavage Boone

Jean Anne Mesavage Boone died May 22, 2026 in her home in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born November 19, 1941, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, to Anna Helene Shedlock Mesavage and Clement Mesavage Sr. Her parents were the first generation of their respective families to be born in the United States. Both her parents graduated from Penn State University in the 30s. Jean asked the Social Security lady if she needed to know how to spell Wilkes Barre.

Jean grew up in beautiful Northwest Arkansas (Harrison) where her father was in charge of the Ozark National Forest. After graduating from Harrison High School, she went to the University of Arkansas, majored in music, and was a member of the Arkansas Razorbacks Marching band, University Band, University-Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra (as it was known then), and played in the National Intercollegiate band. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education.

U of A was winning football games in those years. She got to march in the Gator Bowl, Cotton Bowl and two Sugar Bowls. Then the year she was at the University of Illinois for another degree, the football team and band went to the Rose Bowl, but she wasn’t in the band, because she was a girl! (No girls in Big Ten bands back then.)

At the University of Illinois she received a master’s degree in Music Education. There she met and married her husband Dalvin of Lubbock, Texas, who was getting his Doctorate degree in Music at the University of Illinois. These two Southwest Conference students enjoyed sitting together in classes. They both played the trumpet. They married December 22, 1964, in St. John’s Catholic Church on the U of I campus.

Jean was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Tau Beta Sigma, and Alpha Chi Omega.

After teaching in Illinois schools, Jean and her husband went to Louisiana and both taught at Grambling College and were part of the very first white faculty. Soon they moved to Terre Haute where her husband joined the Indiana State University Music Faculty. Dalvin and Jean were part of the University life while he taught at ISU for 38 years. Their children attended the wonderful University School.

There are four children – Michael David Boone, Paris, France; Stephen William Boone, Indianapolis, Indiana; Catherine Anne Beck (Charles), Indianapolis, Indiana; and Lorena Elizabeth Nutt, Lubbock, Texas. There are three grandchildren - Riley and Reese Boone, of Indianapolis, and Emerlee BethAnne of Lubbock Texas.

In addition to her children, Jean is survived by nieces De’An Tate (Rick) of Spring, Texas, Emily Hearn (Scott) of Lubbock, Annie Mesavage Church (Kyle) of Ellicott City, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clement Mesavage Jr.

Visitation will be at the Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home in Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday June 1 at 10 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.
