Ask any hospice leader what keeps them up at night, and it's rarely the clinical work.
It's the family who stopped answering three months after their loss. The caregiver quietly burning out on 27 unpaid hours a week. The 13-month bereavement window closing on someone who needed the call in month 14.
Every one of those moments is a person who slipped through - not because anyone stopped caring, but because there was no system to catch them.
That was the throughline at the AHHC of North Carolina Annual Conference this week. Across sessions on bereavement, caregiver support, and change leadership, the same message kept surfacing: compassion doesn't scale on its own. It needs structure behind it.
That's the work - making sure no family is forgotten.
