79,384 people died from a drug overdose in the U.S. in 2024.

Behind every number is a person, a family, and a community.

While overdose deaths declined significantly in 2024, the need for prevention remains. At Zero Overdose, we’re committed to helping communities identify risk, strengthen safety, and prevent overdose before it happens.

Thank you, OSHA, for advancing workplace overdose preparedness. Zero Overdose is here to help employers put this guidance into action and strengthen prevention through overdose safety planning. Together, we can work to prevent overdoses before they happen, alongside lifesaving overdose reversal medication and emergency response.

We help organizations address training needs and incorporate practical tools for collaborative, person-centered overdose safety planning. This process helps individuals identify their risks, choose steps to reduce them, and connect with support.

Our seven-part safety plan encompasses:

• Personal overdose risks
• Actions to reduce risk
• Physical and mental wellness strategies
• Supportive people to contact
• Professional and crisis resources
• A personal reason for living today
• A next step the individual is willing to take to reduce risk

We welcome the opportunity to help employers build these prevention practices into their workplace overdose preparedness efforts. Thank you for bringing attention to this lifesaving work.
