SpeechWise Kids was created to share simple, practical ways to help children build speech, language, communication, and early learning skills through play and everyday routines.

Here you’ll find:

✨ Ideas that make practice feel fun and manageable

Here’s your first SpeechWise Kids tip:

Instead of repeatedly asking your child, “What is this?” try modeling a short phrase they can hear and copy.

For example:

🚗 “Big red truck!”
🐶 “The dog is running!”
🫧 “I see bubbles!”

Children often learn more language when they hear helpful models without feeling like they are being tested.

Just a reminder to be kind to everyone this Halloween. 👻🎃

Be kind to the child who can’t say “trick or treat”.

Be kind to the adult in a Superman costume.

Be kind to the little girl who doesn’t say “thank you”.

Be kind to the child who doesn’t understand he’s not supposed to go inside your house.

Be kind to the child who’s not wearing a costume.

Be kind to the little boy who speaks very loudly.

While you may think these behaviors are due to rudeness, often they’re caused by an invisible disability or simply shyness.

To put it into perspective, Halloween is one day a year. You get to make many kids and adults happy just by giving a few pieces of candy. I say that’s a pretty good deal 😊👻🎃

We have the evidence, let’s “shout it from the rooftops” so that both parents and practitioners can make the best informed choice for families!

Preterm-born children are at higher risk for more developmental needs and delays when compared to full-term peers. Inaccurate understanding of bilingualism leads many to abandon their home language “to help” the child! 😳
•
But research is suggesting otherwise so our decisions and recommendations should be otherwise.
•
September is NICU awareness month - Would you please help spread this information, whether via social media or by word of mouth!? The more of us who know it, the better chance these kiddos and families will have of sustaining family languages 🤍
