UToledo Health's Trunk-or-Treat is this Saturday, October. 17, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. This year’s event moves to a new location in Area 48 outside the Ruppert Health Center, with free parking available in Area 43. Dr. Blair Grubb, Distinguished University Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics and director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Autonomic Disorders programs, is among an international group of experts calling on cardiologists to improve how they recognize, diagnose and manage POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), a condition in which the body has difficulty regulating blood flow and heart rate when a person stands. https://bit.ly/4zuhSr3

A lightweight ultrasound device under development at The University of Toledo could one day allow clinicians to capture real-time, 3D images of the heart while patients exercise, potentially improving how cardiac conditions are detected and monitored.
The project is a partnership between Dr. Samer Khouri, a UToledo Health cardiologist and director of cardiac imaging at UTMC, and Dr. Jian-yu Lu, a professor of bioengineering in the UToledo College of Engineering whose research focuses on how sound waves travel. https://bit.ly/4dVLhlq

The University of Toledo will begin offering free flu shots to faculty, staff and students on Thursday, Oct. 1. UToledo requires an annual influenza vaccine for all on-campus students, employees who are not represented by a bargaining unit and all healthcare workers at the University of Toledo Medical Center and UToledo Health clinics. For 25 years, Kimberly Cole, D.N.P., has cared for patients at UToledo Health, first in outpatient neurology and now as an inpatient stroke nurse practitioner. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Cole underwent chemotherapy and radiation at the University of Toledo Medical Center’s Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center. She completed chemotherapy in May and radiation on July 1, and is now in remission.

Cole will serve as captain of the UToledo Health Pink Power Team at the 33rd annual Northwest Ohio Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Hensville Park in downtown Toledo. The UToledo Health Pink Power Team welcomes employees and supporters to participate. Participants can walk, run or participate virtually. https://bit.ly/3TAzZw0
