In 2016, I arrived at Sunrise broken, lost, and deeply entrenched in addiction. When my mother dropped me off, I was entering a treatment setting for the very first time. I was terrified, ashamed, and uncertain of what would happen nextβbut almost immediately, I knew I was in the hands of people who genuinely cared.
The compassion, dignity, and humanity I experienced at Sunrise made that frightening first step feel meaningful and worthwhile. The people who cared for me helped lay part of the foundation of recovery that I still stand on today.
Now, nearly a decade later, I have the extraordinary opportunity to help others take the same courageous first step. To return to Sunrise not as the broken woman who once needed help, but as someone entrusted with helping others find their own path to recovery, is a full-circle moment I do not take lightly.
I am profoundly humbled and grateful. My life today is proof of what can happen when someone is met in their darkest moment with compassion, hope, and the right support. It is now my privilege to help extend that same hope to othersβand to remind them that where they begin does not determine where their story will end.
