For all my horse and cattle clients

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has provided an important update on New World Screwworm which has been detected in a bovine in Zavala County, Texas. Read the full press release here: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/news/agency-announcements/usda-confirms-presence-new-world-screwworm-united-states

General information about New World Screwworm (NWS) can be found in the text below and in the attached infographic.

The adult screwworm fly is about the size of a common housefly (or slightly larger), with orange eyes, a metallic blue or green body, and three dark stripes along its back. It gets its name from the behavior of its larvae (maggots) as they burrow (screw) into the wound, feeding as they go. The maggots (larvae) cause extensive damage by tearing at the hosts’ tissue with sharp mouth hooks. The wound can quickly become enlarged and deeper as more maggots hatch and feed on living tissue.

Because they feed on live flesh, NWS maggots may burrow deep into wounds or openings, while other species of maggots may appear around the outer surface of the wound. In addition, even the smallest wounds have the potential to attract flies, so it is imperative that you keep a close eye on your animals for any signs of wounds.

Lastly, NWS infestations are a reportable disease! Immediately report any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations to a local accredited veterinarian, your State Animal Health Official, or a USDA veterinarian.

First off...

Most parents were never taught ANYTHING about their physiology.

But EVERYONE can learn to operate their body and share the skills with the next generation👊🏽

1.) Breath is the intersection of our body, brain, and environment. Learning to breathe is a life skill that every parent must teach by modeling.

2.) Sleep is where the brain removes waste that has built up throughout the day. Sticky proteins clump between brain cells (the same ones related to dementia and Alzheimer's) Sleep is where the glymphatic system washes these proteins away. Mental health is not possible when the brain is filled with yesterday's junk. Teaching a child HOW to sleep well is a 21st century skill.

3.) Exercise regulates the brain chemicals responsible for mood, satisfaction, attention, motivation, and focus. It is a mental health non-negotiable, yet less than 1-4 of kids meet the minimum physical activity guidelines. You must be the mentor your child needs to build their brain and body.

4.) Nutrition is brain fuel. Poor fuel = poor performance. Each child's nutrition needs are unique. This takes work, exploration, and dedication to your child's health. The result is a child who shines with life, vibrancy, motivation and energy.

5.) Excessive screen time results in dopamine receptors (the landing pads for our motivation molecules) being desensitized. The result? In a sea of stimulation nothing is exciting. This inability to experience joy is the definition of depression.

You probably weren't taught this.

But you CAN teach it to your kids and break the cycle.

👉🏽On June 14th we are training parents to be the Health Mentors most of us never had. DM "Mentor" to join the Mentor Movement!

Health is the result of a set of skills applied daily with support. It's time to teach the next generation about their physiology, first🧠🔥
