Celebration of Life – Derald Leroy Andrews

Family and Friends,

Derald Leroy Andrews was born on June 8, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, to Aaron Leon and Wilma Marie Andrews. The fifth of eight children, he brought energy, laughter, and light wherever he went.

After graduating from high school in Pomona, California, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army. With his exceptional eyesight and steady hand, he earned distinction as a sharpshooter.

Derald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a remarkable gift for spreading joy and making others feel welcome. On May 28, 2026, the Lord gave him his final deployment and called him home.

For more than 25 years, Derald mastered the art of driving a bus, serving his community with dedication until his retirement. Once retired, he embraced the things he loved most—golfing, fishing, playing chess, and barbecuing until every piece of meat was cooked exactly the way he liked it: well done. He also took great pride in caring for his yard. Even when someone kept stealing his landscape lights, he never stopped working to make it beautiful. No matter the circumstance, Derald could always find a reason to smile—and help others do the same.

The love he shared with his wife Lorna was unwavering and unmatched. Family meant everything to him. He was the kind of man who would literally give you the hat off his head if you needed it. Selfless, kind-hearted, and gentle in spirit, he truly was a gentle giant.

If Derald could leave us with a final message, it might sound something like this:

“There’s no need to cry for me, for I am at peace and free from pain. Instead, take a moment and look at your brother, sister, family member, or friend sitting beside you. Put your arms around them and tell them how much you love them.

Remember how important it is to talk, visit, and spend time together while you can. Laugh often. Love deeply. Life is precious, and tomorrow

is never promised.

Take the Chargers over the Rams. Don’t worry about the Lakers—they’ll be back next year.

Look for me in the faces of my children and family. Find my spirit in the lives of the people

I touched along this journey. Let me continue to live not only in your memories, but in your hearts, your actions, and your love for one another.”

Though Derald’s earthly journey has ended, his legacy of love, laughter, generosity, and faith will continue to live on through all who knew him.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

He would want us to honor him by letting go of anger and embracing the future with hope and love. Remember, love never dies, people do. Though his heart has stopped beating, he would not want yours to stop living. Continue to love, laugh, and cherish one another every day.

Derald leaves behind his beloved wife, Lorna; his son, Derald Jr.; his daughter, Tiece; and his two granddaughters, Kadence and Arya. He is also survived by four sisters, three brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness and love.

As we say goodbye, let us remember his final words and the spirit in which he lived:

“Look-a-here… now get your monkey tails up and hug somebody!”

And if you do, you’ll be carrying a little piece of Derald’s love and laughter with you wherever you go.

Maybelline Robinson

Maybelline Ragland Robinson was born on September 1, 1946, to the late Tommie and Corine Ragland. As the eldest of seven children, she embraced her role with a strong sense of responsibility and example, grounded in faith and the value of education. From an early age, she was taught to honor God and to pursue knowledge—principles that remained central throughout her life. She attended Saint James Baptist Church and later Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Maybelline received her early education in the Jackson Madison County school system and graduated from Merry High School. She continued her academic pursuits at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, where she completed her studies in education and fulfilled her student teaching requirements.

In 1979, Maybelline began her career with the United States Postal Service in Los Angeles, California. She initially worked as a machine operator at the Terminal Annex mail facility, where she demonstrated diligence and a strong work ethic. Her commitment and leadership abilities led her to pursue management, and she was promoted to Supervisor of Mails. Over the course of her career, she served in several postal facilities throughout Los Angeles, including the General Mail Facility, where she oversaw plant operations. In her later years of service, she transitioned to carrier operations, where she managed the daily activities of a large team of mail carriers with efficiency and care. After 30 years of dedicated service, Maybelline retired in September 2009, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and leadership.

She was first united in marriage to Henry C. Jeffries, who preceded her in death. From this union, her son, Micah T. Jeffries, was born. He remained the center of her life and a constant source of pride and devotion. She later married Charles Melvin Robinson in 1993, and together they built a life grounded in love, faith, and enduring commitment. They remained happily married for over 32 years. As devoted members of Mount Zion Church of Ontario, they worshiped together, and Maybelline served faithfully as an usher until her illness. In her later years, Charles cared for her with great tenderness and devotion, reflecting the deep bond they shared.

Known affectionately as the family’s “resident glamour girl,” Maybelline had a special way of bringing beauty and joy into everyday life. She delighted in teaching the girls in the family about facials and nail polish—never letting her polished nails interfere with helping in the kitchen, cooking, or canning fruits and vegetables alongside her mother. She also enjoyed shopping for clothing and took great pride in decorating her home, creating spaces that were both beautiful and welcoming. She balanced grace and practicality with ease, leaving lasting impressions on everyone she loved.

Maybelline was also known for her warm and joyful spirit. She loved to laugh and was always pleasant to be around, bringing comfort and happiness to family and friends alike. She was a wonderful cook, sharing meals that reflected her love and care for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Corine Ragland, and her brother, Kenneth Ragland.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Charles Robinson; her loving son, Micah T. Jeffries; her stepson, Erick Robinson; six grandchildren, DeShawn, Khadijah, Erick Jr., Khalil, Tawndrick, and Tristan; four great-grandchildren, Khayden, Kyler, Amir, and Andel; one brother, Thomas (Pam) Ragland; four sisters, Gerri (William) Terrell, Shirley (Jerry) White, Debra (Michael) Bowers, and Cecelia Thomas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Maybelline was a joy to know. It was a pleasure to be in her presence, and she will be deeply and eternally missed. May the Lord receive her as she goes home to Heaven.
