I have some thoughts on the way we consumerize Christmas, but the ultimate reality is…
Folks love to give (and receive) gifts. Me included.

I’m probably still on Santa’s naughty list for the tantrum I threw when I was 8 over the pony he failed to deliver Christmas morning.

Y’all are all gonna buy gifts for your loved ones and probably for yourselves (y’all deserve it) this holiday season.

And while the 85° temps in my beloved Texas don’t say, “Christmas is Coming,” the calendar sure does.

Over here at Yoga Cowgirl, our contribution to making holidays happy and Christmases merry is $10 off every T-shirt and every Sunday Morning Comin Down class pass now through Christmas Eve.
And we figured, what the hell, if there are already Christmas decorations up in stores before Halloween, why can’t we start our Black Friday sale today!?!
So we did.

Ya see.
Texans are a don’t-fence-me-in kind of breed. The surest way to get us to do something is to tell us we can’t.
That don’t mean it always works out for us, but, at least y’all know what you’re up against.

The sale prices are already reflected on the sale items, there’s no need for a coupon code, and there is no limit to how many you can purchase.

Stuff a cowgirl’s stocking with something you know she will love, and treat yo’ self while you’re at it!

We just added 2 more Sunday dates at Tupps Brewery to the calendar in November and December.
Check it out on the website and pick up some Yoga Cowgirl swag while you’re there.

This Yoga Cowgirl tee seems equally at home in the long shadows on the porch of this straw bale adobe as I am.

Tucked away in the foot hills above Tucson among the saguaros and silence, we spent mornings over coffee, our days sunbathing and lazing, and nights stargazing, all from this spot.

Three large cabinets full of an eclectic collection of books capably took the place of TV, Wi-Fi, and cell service.

Fitting, I guess, my husband and I found ourselves talking in a library whisper, in an unspoken effort not to break the spell of the abject silence.
My husband joked that we were working on our nonverbal communication.

(Let’s be honest, my husband IS a Texan. Quiet and reverent are two words that are seldom used to describe the man unless he’s in a deer stand.
🤣🤣🤣
I still hit my silence quota in spite of him, though I feel like I can add librarian to my rĂŠsumĂŠ now.

My shush game is strong y’all.)

This exercise of stillness and silence, syncing with the natural rhythm of the sunrise and sunset left me feeling restored and renewed with purpose.

Slowing down is power move.
Trust me y’all.
It doesn’t mean you’re giving in, it means you’re getting ready.

Down here in Texas we get to experience a second spring in the late fall.

After the endless string of 100° days of summer that ended what seems like 15 minutes ago, we finally got our annual reprieve from the heat last week. And while y’all folks in parts north of here are leaf peeping fall color, we have wild flowers in bloom.

Y’all might look at this photo and see some ugly ditch weeds in my pasture that need to get sprayed and a rusty section of pipe fence that needs some paint.

I see the splendor of second spring and an appreciation for the life giving power of those 17 rain drops we got last month….
Ya see, I’m a half full kinda Texan.

Now, I’m not saying living in Texas makes you a better person (I mean, it might, but that’s not the point I’m tryin to make here) but it certainly gives you a different perspective on gratitude.

No matter where you’re from, I think the overwhelming message here is:

Bloom where you’re planted.

The way I see it, we don’t always get to pick what pasture we wind up in, but we do get to pick our attitude about it.

14/10/2023

The hustle culture that is pervasive on social media conspires to convince us that if we aren’t 24/7 hustling, we are getting left behind in an old forgotten and meaningless heap of yesterday’s news.

After a trying week of perceived setbacks, I retreated to my favorite desert hideout to lick my wounds and figure out how my life had spiraled so far away from the master plan.

Spoiler Alert:
It hadn’t. I just needed to slow my hustle and pull my head out of my ass so I could see the light.

I stumbled in to Joshua Tree a few years back while I was wandering westward in search of myself and I instantly felt a connection with the solitude and a welcoming calm in the landscape.

Fast forward a few long years and I felt the same homecoming among the Joshua trees when I rolled back in to town.

Joshua trees were named for the biblical figure Joshua by 19th-century settlers migrating across the Mojave desert who felt the outstretched tree limbs guided them along their westward journey….

As if I needed a louder message, the namesake Joshua, he of biblical fame, was a humble servant, and valiant warrior. He was loyal and dutiful in his unflinching willingness to tirelessly do what he was called to do.

My perspective corrected by quiet reflection, my take away was clear:

The grind of pushing forward on 3-4 projects every day on top of a real job can feel daunting AF.
It can be exhausting.

And even a labor of love can be hard labor sometimes.

But…

✨Life is about finding a place that you feel welcome, and wholeheartedly embracing those open arms that shepherd you on your journey.

✨Dutifully answer your calling with humility and courage.
Courage because you know you’re going to fall off of that horse. Humility because falling off of a high horse is a REAL motherf*****.

✨Be loyal to your passion, pursue it passionately, even when that fire gets extinguished by a gigantic s**t missile that leaves you questioning everything.

✨And, most importantly, dedicate yourself to the people that are dedicated to you. That is where you find true wealth.
