A PIECE OF DCH NURSING HISTORY

With only 102 days until Christmas, this beautiful framed photograph hanging in the Administrative Offices at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa reminds us of a special Christmas nursing tradition from years gone by.

One of our Nurse Honor Guard members who remembers this tradition shared:

“This is when we would sing Christmas carols to the patients on each floor at Christmas time. Afterwards, we would go back to the dorm and have refreshments, especially hot chocolate. Those were the good old days.”

What a beautiful memory! These nurses carried their lamps through the hospital at Christmastime, bringing music, light, joy, and comfort to their patients.

The uniforms and traditions may have changed, but the heart of nursing remains the same—bringing light and compassion to those we serve.
