Sometimes the hardest brick walls to crack are the ones in our own family tree. 🌳🔎. My paternal great-grandfather, Claudius Gilmer Whitley, was murdered in San Felipe, Texas, at the hands of a lawman who was later pardoned. That means somewhere in the Texas archives, the official witness statements and pardon files exist. 😤 Have you ever uncovered a mystery or historic crime in your family line? Drop a comment below—let's compare notes! 👇

Occasionally, I work on my own family. My paternal great grandfather was murdered.
I wrote to the THSA and The State of Texas with the facts, but their responses were not very encouraging.

Since the murderer was pardoned, there should be witness accounts and records in his legal file that define what occurred at “a bank’s saloon” on that day in Texas.
His murderer’s name is Tom WATSON; he was a law enforcement officer. My great grandfather’s name was Claudius Gilmer Whitley. He lived in San Felipe, Austin, Texas, USA.
