Health optimization should look a lot more like real life and a lot less like a full-time tracking job. Yes, data can be useful. Labs can be useful. Wearables can be useful. Supplements can be useful. But your health is bigger than a dashboard.

Here’s what health optimization should really look like:

-Energy: steady enough to get through your day without living on caffeine or crashing by mid-afternoon.
-Sleep: waking up feeling restored more often than not, with a routine that supports real recovery.
-Strength: maintaining muscle, mobility, and physical capacity so your body can keep doing what you ask of it as you age.
-Metabolic health: supporting healthy blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, triglycerides, appetite, and energy.
-Cardiovascular health: paying attention to blood pressure, aerobic fitness, cholesterol patterns, daily movement, and family history.
-Nutrition: getting enough protein, fiber, healthy fats, and nutrient-dense foods without turning every meal into a spreadsheet.
-Digestion: regular bowel movements, comfortable digestion, and fewer issues with bloating, reflux, or unpredictable symptoms.
-Hormones: understanding how thyroid function, reproductive hormones, stress physiology, and metabolic health may be influencing how you feel.
-Bone health: protecting bone density and strength through resistance training, appropriate impact, nutrition, and hormone awareness.
-Brain health: supporting focus, memory, mood, and cognitive function through sleep, movement, metabolic health, and stress management.
-Preventive care: staying on top of screenings, labs, blood pressure, family history, and the health markers that matter before something becomes a bigger issue.
-Testing: using labs and advanced testing when they answer a meaningful clinical question, rather than ordering everything just because it exists.
-Supplements: using them strategically and intentionally, with a clear reason for why they are in your plan.
-Stress: having enough recovery built into your life that your body is not constantly trying to catch up.

That is the version of health optimization we care about.

Personalized, practical, and sustainable.

POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, is a form of autonomic dysfunction where the body has trouble regulating heart rate and blood flow when you move upright.

Common clues can include:

Lightheadedness: especially after standing
Racing heart: often with position changes
Exercise intolerance: workouts may feel disproportionately hard
Heat sensitivity: hot showers or warm weather can make symptoms worse
Fatigue + brain fog: often worse after being upright for long periods
Feeling better lying down: a pretty important clue

POTS can overlap with other conditions, so proper evaluation matters. It is not something to self-diagnose from one symptom or a smartwatch reading.

But if you keep thinking, “Why does standing, showering, or walking around make me feel this bad?” that deserves a closer look.

If this sounds familiar, book a consultation so we can look at your symptoms, triggers, and the bigger autonomic picture.

When I was in my thirties I realized something about myself.

My biggest hurdle has never been whether I am capable.

I am capable.

I can do hard things.
I can lead.
I can build.
I can survive.
I can figure things out.
I can walk into chaos and somehow find a way forward.

Strength has never really been my problem.

Believing I am worthy of what comes after survival has been.

Somewhere along the way, I picked up labels.

Too much.
Too loud.
Too ambitious.
Difficult.
Intimidating.
Not enough.
Not qualified enough.
Not polished enough.

And even after you outgrow the environment that gave you those labels, sometimes you keep carrying them.

That's the sneaky thing about imposter syndrome.

You can have the experience.
You can have the education.
You can have the results.
You can have people telling you, “You are ready.”

And still have a voice inside you whispering:

But who do you think you are?

I'm learning that sometimes we aren't waiting for an opportunity.

We're waiting to believe we're allowed to take it.

So here are five ways I think we stop ourselves—and what I'm learning to replace them with.

1. STOP: Waiting until you feel qualified.
REPLACE IT WITH: Obedience before confidence.

Confidence often comes AFTER you move.

Apply.
Start.
Speak.
Build.
Go back to school.
Take the meeting.
Walk through the door.

You don't have to feel ready to take the next faithful step.

2. STOP: Letting old labels become current identities.
REPLACE IT WITH: Evidence of who you've become.

Some people knew a version of you that doesn't exist anymore.

Their opinion doesn't get permanent naming rights over your life.

Look at the evidence.

Look at what you've survived.
Look at what you've learned.
Look at the people you've helped.
Look at the fruit.

You are allowed to outgrow someone's description of you.

3. STOP: Shrinking so other people don't feel uncomfortable.
REPLACE IT WITH: Stewardship.

This one is hard for me.

Because sometimes we call shrinking humility.

But humility isn't pretending you're less capable than you are.

Humility is knowing exactly what God placed in your hands and being willing to steward it for His glory.

You don't have to become smaller to make someone else feel bigger.

4. STOP: Believing struggle is what you deserve.
REPLACE IT WITH: Permission to receive good things.

This might be the hardest one.

When you've spent years fighting, surviving and proving yourself, peace can feel suspicious.

Opportunity can feel undeserved.

Being valued can even feel uncomfortable.

Sometimes you become so accustomed to fighting for a seat that you don't know what to do when someone simply pulls out the chair and says:

“We've been waiting for you.”

I'm learning to sit down.

5. STOP: Asking, “Who am I to do this?”
REPLACE IT WITH: “Who am I NOT to?”

What if the question isn't whether you're impressive enough?

What if the question is whether you're willing to use what you've been given?

Your experiences.
Your education.
Your voice.
Your scars.
Your leadership.
Your compassion.
Your story.

Maybe you don't need another person to validate you.

Maybe you need to stop disqualifying yourself.

Because here's what I'm learning in this season:

I don't need to become stronger.

I've been strong for a very long time.

I need to believe that the woman who fought this hard to become who she is is also allowed to become who she's called to be.

That's different.

So I'm letting go of labels that were never mine to carry.

I'm challenging the voice that tells me I don't belong in rooms I've worked hard to enter.

I'm refusing to confuse humility with shrinking.

And when imposter syndrome asks:

“Who do you think you are?”

I'm learning to answer:

“Someone who finally stopped asking permission to become who God created her to be.”

And maybe you need to stop asking permission too.

If your routine is basically “grab the handful and take everything with breakfast,” you may want to look at what is actually in that stack.

Some nutrients can compete for absorption, especially when they are taken in higher-dose supplement form.

Calcium + Iron: These are better taken at different times when iron absorption is a priority.

Iron + Zinc: Higher-dose iron can reduce zinc absorption when they are taken together, so spacing them out can be helpful.

Zinc + Copper: High-dose zinc over time can interfere with copper absorption, which is why zinc is not something to keep adding indefinitely without a reason.

High-dose Zinc + Magnesium: Very high amounts of zinc may interfere with magnesium absorption. This tends to matter more with larger supplemental doses.

Comment below if you want help figuring out which ones may be better taken together, separated, or reviewed altogether.

Our athletes deserve access to great recovery resources, and some of them are right here in our own community.

Concussion recovery requires proper medical evaluation and a safe return-to-play plan, but there are also supportive tools that can help athletes prioritize hydration, rest, and nervous-system recovery.

That’s why I love that we have resources like Solace for float therapy and our Foraged Health for IV hydration available locally.

Float therapy Solace Relaxation Massage, Float Spa & Esthetics provides a quiet, low-stimulation environment where an athlete can truly rest.

IV hydration Foraged Health LLC can support hydration and nutritional needs, especially when headaches, nausea, fatigue, or decreased appetite make recovery more challenging.

These services don't replace concussion care, but they can be part of a bigger recovery plan.

As a community, we spend so much time helping our athletes train harder. I love seeing us build resources that help them recover well, too.

Support local. Care for our athletes. Build healthier communities.

Feeling tired, foggy, wired, or just not quite like yourself?

It’s easy to blame a busy schedule, poor sleep, or “just stress.” But when those symptoms keep hanging around, there may be more going on.

Cortisol and thyroid function are closely connected, and chronic stress can influence the way your body regulates energy, metabolism, sleep, and hormones.
