How I Find My ‘Here Now’ in the Kitchen

I love to cook. I don’t usually need a recipe or a guide, but if I’m being honest? I get into ruts—especially during those heavy weekdays when my "therapist brain" is full and my "creative brain" is tired.
Lately, I’ve been leaning into a "guilty pleasure" that has turned into a powerful mindfulness tool: EveryPlate.
I know, I know—a meal kit? But here’s the thing: it shakes up my routine. It forces me to try new flavor profiles and follow a different rhythm. For about $83, I get three meals that feed four people, and the quality and quantity are honestly impressive.
But it’s not just about the food. It’s about the somatic grounding. When I’m chopping, sautéing, and smelling those spices hit the pan, I’m not a therapist processing trauma. I’m just a human, present in the moment. The sizzle of the oil and the aroma of fresh herbs are my favorite ways to practice "being here now." It’s my non-medicated way of coming back to myself.

I’ve been veeeerry scaled back from Be Here Now KC as I was diving in to building a new program for an organization in our community and moving homes to be with my love. I apologize for any lack of response! However, I am loving that I am settling into new ways of being here now including my little garden and Somatic EMDR training and practices. Here are a few pics that represent the growing I am doing and sharing😊fyi the somatic workouts have had a side effect of weight loss from 155 to 138 in about 5 months!
