Just the term “bone spur” sounds painful. Surprisingly, bone spurs are often asymptomatic – sometimes you might not even know about them until they're found on an X-ray. “Bone spurs are areas of extra bone growth. They’re kind of like ‘protective’ mechanisms; they grow as a way to reduce motion in places that are experiencing increased stress,” says Dr. Derek Semaan, our orthopedic surgeon.

Henry Ford Jackson Trauma Injury Prevention is hosting free monthly STOP THE BLEED®️classes at the YMCA Downtown Branch–Jackson. Classes will be held on the 3rd Thursday of the month, from 5–6 p.m. All community members and Henry Ford team members are welcome to attend.

Injuries that result in life-threatening bleeding can happen anywhere, at any time. The individual next to a bleeding victim may be the one who is most likely to save that person from bleeding to death before professional first responders arrive. The Stop the Bleed course is for anyone who is interested in learning the lifesaving skills for bleeding control. The course begins with a presentation covering the basics of bleeding control, followed by hands-on practice applying direct pressure, packing a wound, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding.
