Update
It has been awhile since the last update because Mom has been well enough to communicate on her own, but her is a little summary of what’s been going on:

Her PET scan at the end of October showed no signs of cancer. As a precaution, they still wanted to move forward with chemo and radiation to make sure there were no microscopic cells that were not showing up.

She completed her 3rd round of chemo last Friday. She has been tolerating chemo pretty well. She has had hair loss and gets muscle aches, but with her vitamin regimen she has been able to avoid severe side effects and has been able to eat, which helps her keep her strength.

We were supposed to have an appointment today to set up radiation, but we need to reschedule, because…

Louie:
This morning, after 5 am, Dad had a stroke. He could not talk, his right side was paralyzed and his face was droopy. I called 9-1-1 immediately, and gave him 2 baby aspirins. He was taken by ambulance to Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN. Because he is on blood thinners they could not give him the typical stroke medication and the doctor was not very encouraging. However, through praying (and through the prayers of many of who were praying with for us and with us) as we were listening to praise & worship music in the emergency room, he began to get feeling and movement back in his arm and leg, began saying words that eventually led to sentences and his face returned to normal. Very miraculous!

He had a CT scan and an MRI and we will be meeting the doctor tomorrow to determine what’s next. He wanted to come home today, but the doctor said, “um…no, this is kinda a big deal and we need to keep you here.”

Please keep him and Mom in your prayers as we continue to navigate through each of their medical journeys.

Mom came home from the hospital yesterday. We will have a follow up in a couple of weeks to see what’s next. Keep the prayers going!

Mom is doing well today. She’s already getting physical therapy and walking up and down the hospital halls. She’s in good spirits and very talkative. Keep the prayers going!

Sorry for the delay for an update…To say today was a long day would be an understatement! We just got home from the hospital. Mom is doing well, but we’re all physically and emotionally exhausted.

We got Mom to the hospital by 5 am for her surgery. They actually took her in at 7:30. They estimated 2.5 to 3 hours for the procedure. Almost 4 hours later, we were still waiting. Finally, they said that she was doing well, but they still had a bit more work to do. Then as we were approaching the 7 hour mark, we got the news that surgery was done and Mom was in recovery. The doctor was way behind schedule so we didn’t get a lot of time with her, but she told us that because of the sepsis and the scar tissue it left behind, the mass was touching so many things that it took her a long time to get it out. The pathology came back on the mass and it showed malignancy, so they proceeded to do a complete hysterectomy. Even though the surrounding lymph nodes looked clean, they removed them to be tested. We will find out those results in a few days. She also took some of the omentum tissue from the abdomen to be tested as well. She feels she got everything, but once Mom recovers from this surgery, there will be more tests to see if any other treatment is necessary.

Because of the extensiveness of this surgery and the length of time she was under anesthesia, this will be another long road. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
