Sharon shares how the U-Step has helped her feel confident walking again and make the move from assisted living to independent living:
“The U-Step is worth every penny!
I was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease and since it was getting worse, I needed to move into an assisted living facility. I had one of those aluminum walkers, but it was so unstable I just didn’t want to use it. My OT at the facility noticed my tiny steps and instability when I walked and strongly recommended the U-Step walker.
Wow. The U-Step, along with my physical/occupational therapy and new medication, has improved my life beyond repair. I now walk with confidence and since the U-Step surrounds me on three sides, I have no fear of falling. I also now have the freedom to walk outside. The U-Step’s laser module helps me walk straight and with a normal stride length.
I originally purchased the Standard U-Step walker, but since my hand strength is rather weak due to arthritis, I had a hard time squeezing the hand brake lever beneath the handlebar to release the brakes and start walking.
The OT and I spoke to the company and were able to get the Press Down handlebars. The company’s support was great as they helped my OT swap the Standard handlebars with the Press Down handlebars.
Instead of having to squeeze the hand brake lever, I now only have to push down on the lever that is on top of the handlebar to release the brakes and walk– this is so much easier for me.
When you lose your ability to walk safely, you’ll do everything to fix it. The U-Step has been that fix. In fact, I now give demos to other residents in the facility.
And the best news.....I was able to move from assisted living to independent living!!!”
