The U-Step Walking Stabilizer is designed to increase independence and eliminate falling for those with neurological conditions (i.e. Parkinson Disease).

The U-Step provides more stability, maneuverability and control compared to other walking aids. Jonathan Miller’s mother was losing her independence due to a neurological condition that was affecting her walking ability. After she sought out help from physiatrists and physical therapists, who set her up with leg braces, a walker, and ten weeks of therapy, she was no better off. Jonathan envisioned a walker that surrounded the person, which led to the "U" shaped base. After making a few prototypes, he developed the first U-Step walker. Encouraged by a family physician that saw how well his mother walked with the U-Step, he was inspired to start In-Step Mobility to help people walk safely and stay as independent as possible. Thousands of people have benefited from Pauline Miller's walker, including a former U.S. President and one of the most famous boxers of all time.

Folding up and transporting your U-Step Neuro Walker is easier than you might think!

Step 1: Lift the lever labeled “U-Step” and raise the seat until it’s upright.

Step 2: Find the bar with the sticker that says “Lift here to fold.” Pull the bar straight up.

Step 3: On the left side of the walker, find the gray clip, rotate it, and snap it onto the adjacent bar to secure the U-Step in its folded position.

The Standard U-Step weighs 23 pounds, but we have a few tricks to make transporting it easier. Once folded, you can tilt the U-Step and roll it on its front middle wheel like a wheelbarrow instead of having to carry it. To load it into your car, you can lean one end of the folded U-Step against the car, then lift the opposite end and push it in. That way, you don’t have to lift the entire walker at once.

When Kris’s mom began struggling with her balance, she switched from a three-wheeled walker to the U-Step Neuro Walker for greater stability:

“My mom did not want to lose the ability to walk – for her, to fall would be devastating. With the U-Step she can now walk and sit safely.

My mom has had a series of health issues that made her legs weak, resulting in her being less stable and off-balance when she walked. She used a three-wheeled walker for years with no issues, but her recent health concerns changed that as we were worried that the walker would run away from her.

She lives in an assisted living community. During one of my visits, I noticed a resident using a U-Step – it had a unique design, so I was intrigued and spent a lot of time on the U-Step website learning about the U-Step. Fall prevention was a major factor in purchasing the U-Step as several of the U-Step’s features addressed our concerns.

My mom uses the U-Step every day. Reverse braking is very important to both her and me – she is able to control when she wants to stop or walk without fear of the U-Step running away. She also likes the ability to rotate the U-Step and turn around in an elevator without any help. We have used the tension control on the wheels a little bit to slow her down.

The U-Step provides a stable seat when she needs to rest, and we don’t worry about the walker moving out from under her as she sits down. She also uses the basket under the seat to store her glasses.

One of the key features of the U-Step Neuro Walker is its reverse braking system. Unlike traditional walkers, the U-Step won't move unless you want it to. The brakes are automatically on, so you have to actively disengage them to move the walker. This helps prevent a runaway walker situation.

Both the Standard and Press Down U-Step models use reverse braking, but they work a little differently. With the Standard U-Step, you squeeze either hand brake to move, while with the Press Down U-Step, you press down on the lever or rollover bar to move. This can be especially helpful for people with weaker hand strength.

The U-Step Neuro Walker comes in three different models, each designed to meet different needs:

Standard Model: Features a reverse braking system that keeps the walker from rolling until you lightly squeeze either hand brake.

Platform Model: Using the same reverse braking as the Standard U-Step, the Platform U-Step features padded arm platforms that provide forearm support, helping with posture and stability. It can also be beneficial for people with ataxia or those who have experienced a stroke or brain injury.

Press Down Model: Uses a modified reverse braking system that allows you to release the brakes by pressing down on a brake bar. This can be helpful for people with limited hand strength or cognitive challenges.

What does a mallet have to do with the U-Step Neuro Walker? Not much, except they both have a low center of gravity 😂😂

Unlike traditional rollators which have a high center of gravity, 70% of the U-Step’s weight is at its base, giving it a low center of gravity. The lower the center of gravity, the more stable you will be. This is a critical part of how the U-Step is designed to prevent falls and keep you safer when walking.

Walking again can feel out of reach for someone who uses a wheelchair. Some may be afraid to fall or lack confidence based on previous experiences. But we’ve had customers who hadn’t walked in years, sometimes a decade or more, begin walking again with the U-Step Neuro Walker.

The main reason is the U-Step’s stability. It helps prevent falls and gives people more confidence to get back on their feet.

Tim shares how the U-Step has helped his 89-year-old dad Bob, a former ice hockey player living with Parkinson’s, stay mobile:

“My dad loves his U-Step and calls it a Cadillac as he “drives” his U-Step around the house every day.

My dad (Bob) has always been active and played ice hockey till he was 70 years old – his nickname was the Silver Jet. He is now 89 years old, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and had fallen a few times recently, so we visited his doctor, who then recommended physical therapy. The very first day the physical therapist worked with my dad he strongly recommended the U-Step walker and pointed us to the website.

After reviewing the website, we called the office and spoke to Shira. She was awesome and very honest. When I mentioned immediately driving down from Michigan to pick up a U-Step at the main office, she explained that about 100 orders were in front of ours and that they needed to ship those orders first. She promised she would process and ship the U-Step to me early the following week....and she met her promise.

My dad was a carpenter starting at the age of 12, so he and I both have a keen eye for a product’s workmanship. Simply put, the U-Step is extremely well-designed and of very high quality. Attention has been paid to the details. For example, the gray latch ensures the U-Step stays compact when we fold up the U-Step. He also uses the basket under the seat to store the TV controller and his book.

He loves the 5th wheel (front middle wheel) as it helps easily transition from room to room in the house (some rooms have carpet, some do not). The extra weight at the base of the U-Step helps him feel safe and more stable.

The reverse braking feature of the U-Step is much safer than other walkers. My dad can more easily stand up and sit down grabbing onto the U-Step without any worry about the U-Step moving. When he is walking around the house, he knows the U-Step won’t run away from him. My dad’s U-Step also has the red laser line attachment – he uses the laser when he needs a little assistance guiding his steps.
