2020 DOCTORS ON BOARD PROGRAM POSTPONED

Due to the escalating concerns about COVID – 19 / Coronavirus and wanting each of you, your families and networks to be safe and healthy, the Physicians Medical Forum (PMF) has postponed the Doctors On Board Program for Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Samuel Merritt University – Health Education Center and Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the Claremont Hotel.

PMF will be in touch with everyone to reschedule dates hopefully in the near future.

African-American/Black medical students, residents and physicians coming together for a networking, mentoring and luncheon

This workshop provided students with critically needed information that will assist them in preparing for medical school. The areas covered included an SAT Prep and MCAT Webinar presented by the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) and Princeton Review; mentoring sessions with medical students/residents from Stanford, UCSF and UC Davis medical schools' Student National Medical Association (SNMA); presentation and practice on interviewing skills and an interactive segment on writing personal statements, which was presented by Tours for Diversity, Harvard School of Medicine and staff from UCSF School of medicine.

The “Doctors On Board Pipeline Program” is an innovative and exciting opportunity for African American/Black, Native American, Hispanic and underrepresented minority students. Post-baccalaureate, pre-meds, college/university students, community college students, high seniors, juniors and sophomores interested in becoming physicians or pharmacists will experience a rare snapshot of what it takes to become a physician or pharmacist.

The program includes mock medical knot tying & suture clinics, mock primary care clinics, mentoring sessions with doctors/pharmacists & medical students and workshops on preparing to go medical school. Each students receives their on disk entitled "YOUR TOOL KIT: Getting into Medical/Pharmacy School" which is loaded with valuable information to guide them.

Parents and family are invited to attend a workshop which assist them in preparing for their "future doctors". Upon completion of the program, each student is awarded a Certificate of Completion.

The DOB is funded by The California Wellness Foundation, The Kaiser Foundation Hospital Fund for Community Benefit Program at the East Bay Community Foundation, Well Fargo. There is no charge to student to participate in the program.

The Community Health Ambassadors Program (CHA) aims to empower African American youth by training them to serve as ambassadors of health and wellness within their family and broader community. All of the students interns in the program are pursuing their goal to become a physician or pharmacists. Students engage in skill building, community health, education and awareness, for 12 sessions over 5 weeks.

Students work in teams and after meeting with the organization's Executive Director or key staff person, select a health topic of mutual interest. Thereafter, the students teams write a script, direct and produce a short 3 to 5 minutes video segments on their health topic
The program concludes with the interns team presentations on their health topics. Parents and family are invited to the closing. Interns are awarded a Certificate of Completion and the organization receive a copy of the video.

SNMA hosts the nationwide Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC). All the national chapters of SNMA from each medical school converge for this event which features networking opportunities and workshops for medical students, residents and pre-meds.

PMF hosted an exhibit booth and conducted 8 workshops and specialty sessions during the conference including topics on rock the match, cultural competency, primary care, orthopedic/sports medicine/OB-GYN, surviving the 1st and 2nd year of medical school, what should medical students do if they do not match, residency and options once medical school is completed and creative ways to use the MD/DO.
