Assisted Living Locators of Greater Columbia It’s an emotional & complex journey to find long-term senior living options for loved ones. Call us! We will find the perfect "fit" community.

Assisted Living Locators provides free, personalized support for those seeking Assisted Living, Independent Living or Memory Care communities in the Midlands area of South Carolina. It does not matter the level of assistance your loved one needs. I began this company because I have experienced the challenge myself of finding a community of care for my aging parents. I have done all of the legwork,

the research, the tours of local communities.... I know all of the pitfalls and the missteps people take in looking for the right fit for their parents. I am fully certified as a senior living advisor so I can assist with financial questions, how to create a plan of action, how to help when dementia or other healthcare issues are part of the equation, and more. And it is all at no cost to you. The senior care communities are happy to pay for my services because they know they're getting qualified and "right-fit" people through me. Whether you have $2500 month (or more), I am here to help you navigate the waters. Together, we will tour properties, evaluate options, and get your questions answered. I will be here for you and your family every step of the way. I also have contacts and a referral network for just about everything you might need or run into from cleaning your loved one's home, getting it organized to sell, connecting you to a realtor and the list goes one and on. If you have a need -I probably know someone I can refer you to. Unfortunately I cannot help Medicaid recipients. However, I can refer you to someone who can assist you in finding a place accepting Medicaid.

If you are taking a loved one to a doctor for memory concerns, it helps to bring more than a general feeling that something seems off. Write down specific examples of changes you are seeing, how long they have been happening, any safety concerns, medication issues, changes in mood or behavior, and questions about daily functioning. A list of medications and a short timeline can also make the conversation much more useful. Families often leave with clearer next steps when they come prepared with real patterns instead of trying to remember everything in the room. We help Midlands families think through those patterns and what support options may come next. Our help is completely free for families. When families ask what VA may help with, one of the biggest mistakes is treating every care setting like it works the same way. Home care, assisted living, memory care, and nursing home care can involve very different services, costs, and documentation. That means the right planning questions may change depending on the setting your loved one actually needs. Families often lose time because they ask one broad question when they really need to sort out the level of care first. We help Midlands families make those distinctions so they can ask better questions and plan with more clarity. Our help is completely free for families. Father’s Day can hold a lot at once — gratitude, love, laughter, and for some families, a deep sense of remembrance too. Today we’re honoring the dads, grandfathers, and father figures whose guidance and love continue to shape the people around them, across every season of life.

One lesser-known dementia sign families may notice is not memory first, but trouble with words and conversation. A loved one may stop mid-sentence, lose their train of thought, struggle to find familiar words, or start pulling back from conversation because speaking has become harder. These changes are easy to brush off at first, but when they become more frequent, they can be important to notice. We help Midlands families understand what these patterns may mean and what next steps may be worth exploring. Our help is completely free for families. On Juneteenth, we pause to reflect on freedom, dignity, resilience, and the strength of community. It is a day to honor history, recognize progress, and remember the importance of ensuring every person is seen, valued, and treated with humanity. Today, we simply join in that reflection with respect.

A lesser-known Alzheimer’s warning sign is not memory at all. It can be a change in how someone sees and moves through space. Trouble judging distance, seeing contrast, reading, navigating familiar rooms, or managing stairs can all affect daily confidence and safety. Families sometimes think these changes are only vision problems, when they may actually be tied to cognitive decline. That is one reason driving, falls, and disorientation can become bigger concerns than people expect. We help Midlands families understand what changes may point to memory-care needs and how to plan the next step with less fear and confusion. Our help is completely free for families. One reason VA claims can stall is that families do not realize the process may require medical documentation that clearly shows the level of care needed. Forms like VA Form 21-2680 are often part of that conversation, and in some situations nursing-home documentation may also be required. In other words, applying is not just about finding the right benefit name. It is about showing the care need clearly and early. Families who wait until a crisis often end up trying to gather paperwork under pressure. We help Midlands families understand the process, the questions to ask, and how to get organized before things become more stressful. Our help is completely free for families. Many families try to patch support together at home for as long as they can. What memory care provides is more than supervision. It can include structured routine, medication support, cueing, safer environments, trained staff, social engagement, and a daily rhythm that reduces repeated crises and caregiver burnout. For many families, the question is not whether they love their loved one enough to keep trying at home. The question is whether the current setup is still safe and sustainable. We help Midlands families understand how memory care works and when it may be the right next step. Our help is completely free for families. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a reminder that abuse does not always look like physical harm. Sometimes it looks like sudden banking changes, unpaid bills even though money is available, poor hygiene, untreated medical needs, isolation from friends or family, or a loved one seeming fearful around one specific person. These quieter signs are easy to miss, especially when families are already overwhelmed. If something feels off, trust that instinct and ask questions early. We help families navigate hard conversations and understand support options with compassion. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. Our local guidance is completely free for families. On Flag Day, it is worth clearing up one of the biggest misunderstandings families have about VA help and assisted living. The VA does not usually just step in and pay room and board the way many people assume. Families often need to separate housing costs from care costs, and certain benefits may help offset care-related expenses rather than cover everything. That distinction matters when people are trying to budget, compare options, or decide what questions to ask first. We help Midlands families understand the pieces more clearly so they can plan with less confusion. Our help is completely free for families.
