The six-week visit is so bittersweet because, while it is such a blessing to see you and your baby growing and thriving together in postpartum, we will miss you terribly! 🥹 When we spend so much time together during your pregnancy you become part of the Midwife KC family forever! Your baby is here! 💞 It's an oxytocin-filled time of joy, but it can also be overwhelming. You just met this incredible, new, perfect, little person in your arms and you still need support! Dad can do so much to help you transition into a peaceful postpartum period by...
- Encouraging you during the placenta delivery
- Supporting you during skin-to-skin, offering water or a snack
- Participating in cutting baby's cord after it is white
- Assisting with baby's weight check and newborn exam
- Offering encouragement and hydration as baby latches to breastfeed
- Helping to manage any visitors or first phone calls according to your plan
- Caring for any older children's needs
- Holding baby skin-to-skin while you're able to use the bathroom, shower if you'd like to or eat a meal

Our students are always learning and improving! 💯 Here, our student, Jerusalem is sharpening her breech skills with Dr. David Hayes.

So grateful that we get to continue to learn from one of the most knowledgeable and influential doctors out there when it comes to breech vaginal delivery. 🙌🏻

Midwifery is a high-touch, relationship based care model that avoids unnecessary interventions. That does NOT mean that when a variation of normal, such as breech, presents itself we are not prepared. In fact, midwives are medically trained professionals that understand physiological birth extremely well. This level of training combined with the personalized care we give each mom in our practice makes us highly skilled at recognizing what is happening with mom and baby throughout birth, and importantly keeping mom and baby safe. 💗
