Tonight, 9th September, the September Epsilon Perseids reach their peak.

This is not the great Perseid display of August. It is a quieter meteor shower, producing around five to eight meteors an hour under ideal conditions. Yet this year, the near-New Moon leaves the sky beautifully dark, giving even the faintest streaks a chance to be seen.

From the UK, begin watching from around 11pm and continue into the early hours. Find the darkest place you safely can, allow your eyes at least twenty minutes to adjust and look across the whole sky. The meteors appear to travel from the direction of Perseus, but they can emerge anywhere above you. American Meteor Society⁠

In witchcraft, meteors can symbolise sudden change, divine timing and intentions released beyond our control. Their brief light reminds us that something does not need to last forever to alter the path before us.

If you see one tonight, resist the urge to ask for everything at once. Choose a single wish, speak it quietly and let the darkness carry it.
