So grateful to Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children and Nichole Shockley for hosting the first Doula Day at Huntsville Hospital. It makes me so hopeful for continued collaboration and working together to help families feel supported and heard during birth.

A group of plaintiffs that include two Alabama birth centers Friday appealed a lower court’s ruling in January that birth centers are hospitals and subject to regulation by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH).

Cervical checks before labor don’t predict when labor will start.
You can be 0 cm and go into labor tonight.
You can be 4 cm and stay pregnant for weeks.

They’re optional — not mandatory.
They can increase discomfort (and sometimes risk), without changing the plan.

The real question isn’t ‘How dilated are you?’
It’s ‘Do you want this check?’
Your body doesn’t owe anyone information.
Informed consent always
