Track night with , , and
Joseph Kim (.kim7), PT at our Quincy clinic, led the warm up and walked the group through deep tier plyos and pogos before the workout. Squat jumps, split squat jumps, split squat exchange jumps, then pogos from two foot to split stance to single leg, with progressions and regressions so everyone had a version that fit where they are.
Why runners should care: running is basically a long string of small jumps. Plyos train your ability to put force into the ground quickly, and they load your joints, tendons, and bones harder than running does. When your capacity to handle force is higher than what running asks of you, your injury risk drops. High force and fast contractions are also the best way to build bone density, which matters for anyone putting in distance mileage.
Joe also ran vertical jump testing and answered questions on injuries and training all night. Then everyone got after the workout: 6x400m at 5K pace.
Thanks to everyone who came out.
