Did the silent scorecard use to be your speciality?

I would over-give, over-function, and over-deliver, and then feel deeply resentful when nobody matched my level of effort. But I never actually asked for what I needed. I just expected them to read my mind the way I read theirs.

As highly sensitive people, we can be so good at anticipating needs that we assume everyone else can do it too. But they can’t. And getting angry at them for not crossing a boundary you never set is a cycle that will exhaust you forever.

Which one of these three hits closest to home for you right now? Drop the number in the comments.

✨ Follow along if you are ready to stop keeping score and start setting boundaries.

When we think of people-pleasing, we usually picture the over-doer. The person who says yes to everything, over-explains their choices, and exhausts themselves trying to keep everyone happy.

But there is a second kind of people-pleasing that highly sensitive people do just as often: the under-doer.

This is the version of people-pleasing that looks like staying quiet so you don’t rock the boat. It looks like downplaying your achievements so someone else doesn’t feel insecure. It looks like hiding your needs because you don’t want to be a burden.

Both are survival strategies. Both are ways your nervous system is trying to control the environment to keep you safe. One uses exhaustion. The other uses invisibility.

Which one is your default?

If you are a highly sensitive person or empath struggling with people-pleasing, overfunctioning, or nervous system dysregulation, you are not alone. Healing starts with learning how to protect your peace.

The “too much” story is almost always a capacity mismatch, not a character flaw.

When you are highly sensitive, you have spent your whole life doing a rapid-fire audit of your own feelings before you express them. You ask yourself: is this valid? Is this reasonable? Will this make them uncomfortable?

But the audit was never the problem. The people who couldn’t pass it were.

If you expressed yourself clearly and they still couldn’t hold it, that is not evidence that you are too much. That is evidence that they did not have the capacity to meet you.

You are allowed to stop editing yourself to fit inside someone else’s emotional ceiling.

If you are a highly sensitive person or empath struggling with people-pleasing, emotional absorption, or nervous system dysregulation, you are not alone. Healing starts with learning how to protect your peace.

This is exactly what we work on inside Deeply Connected. The Guide is in my profile. xx Kristen

✨ Follow along if you are done shrinking your feelings to fit someone else’s comfort zone.

28/07/2026

The story you tell yourself about your feelings is usually more painful than the feeling itself.

When you express hurt and the other person pulls away, your brain immediately writes a story: “I am too much. I am a burden.”

But what if you aren’t too much? What if they just don’t have the capacity?

You’ll either learn to tell the difference, or you’ll spend the next decade shrinking yourself to fit into rooms where your reality isn’t allowed to exist.

You aren’t too much. You’re just asking for water at an empty well.

Drop a ❤️ if you are unlearning the “too much” story today.

As highly sensitive people, we are so incredibly tuned in to other people’s discomfort that the moment we sense it, we immediately try to fix it.

And the fastest way to fix someone else’s discomfort when you’ve expressed a feeling? You invalidate your own feeling. You apologize for bringing it up. You tell yourself you were just being “too sensitive.”

This is how we end up gaslighting ourselves. We mistake their lack of capacity for our lack of worth.

Your feelings are allowed to take up space. Even if that space makes someone else uncomfortable.

Which step of this cycle do you get stuck in the most? 👇

If this hit close to home, I wrote an entire guide for you. Deeply Connected walks you through every relationship in your life, including the one with yourself. Link in bio.

Maybe in that moment you weren’t too much. You were just in a room where your reality is not welcomed.

There is a difference between a character flaw and a capacity mismatch. One is yours to fix. The other is not.

Stop shrinking your reality just because someone else doesn’t have the tools to hold it.

Drop a “me” in the comments if you have ever left a conversation feeling like you said too much, when really they just couldn’t hold it.

Everything in this post and more is inside Deeply Connected. Link in bio.

Empathy is a tool for connection. Energy absorption is a trauma response.

When we lack somatic boundaries, we don’t just understand someone else’s feelings; we metabolize them. We take them into our own bodies and carry them as if they belong to us.

Learning the difference is how you stop being drained by every interaction.

Are you practicing empathy, or are you just absorbing? Let me know in the comments. 👇

You are working so hard to regulate the people around you.

You walk into a room, read the temperature, and immediately start adjusting yourself to make everyone else comfortable. You absorb the tension. You smooth over the awkwardness. You play the peacemaker.

But you cannot regulate a room that is committed to its own chaos.

Your only job is to regulate yourself.

If you are a highly sensitive person or empath struggling with people-pleasing, overfunctioning, or nervous system dysregulation, you are not alone. Healing starts with learning how to protect your peace.

A pattern interrupt is a boundary for your nervous system.

When you are highly sensitive, people will unconsciously use you to co-regulate. They bring you their chaos, hoping your calm will fix it. But often, you end up absorbing the chaos instead.

A pattern interrupt stops the transfer of energy. It breaks the cycle of dysregulation and gives you both a chance to reset.

Which of these 3 pattern interrupts are you going to try this week? 👇

If you are a highly sensitive person or empath struggling with people-pleasing, overfunctioning, or nervous system dysregulation, you are not alone. Healing starts with learning how to protect your peace.

If you are ready to go further than awareness, Deeply Connected is your next step. You'll find details in the “My Guide” highlight on my profile.
