Severe storms remain a concern for this evening, primarily between 8 PM and midnight. The highest risk area (level 3 out of 5) clips our southwest Indiana counties. While confidence remains somewhat low, confidence has increased some in convection making it into at least portions of our region. Damaging winds will be the primary hazard, but some reports of large hail and even a low end threat for a tornado exist.

Extreme heat headlines exist today-tomorrow for peak heat indices up to 115 degrees, locally higher values are possible. A slight risk of severe thunderstorms exists again today for damaging winds, the primary anticipated severe weather hazard.

High heat and humidity makes a strong early week emergence, before temperatures return closer to seasonal norms over the back half of the week. A marginal risk of severe thunderstorms exists to start the week as well.

It is going to get hot folks! Stay safe.

Daily shower and thunderstorm chances today into the weekend will mainly have storm activity in the afternoon. Temperatures trend warmer through the weekend, with weekend heat index values in the lower 100s.

Kentucky is one of at least 17 states experiencing an increase in cases of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness. In collaboration with local health departments and other partners, the Kentucky Department for Public Health is investigating possible sources of this illness to keep Kentuckians healthy.

Cyclosporiasis is treatable, and many people recover without needing medical treatment. It is spread through food and water contaminated with Cyclospora parasites, and usually does not spread from one person to another. If you have symptoms of cyclosporiasis, such as watery diarrhea, and you are concerned about your health, please contact your doctor or other health care provider.

While no source has currently been identified for the current cases of cyclosporiasis, previous outbreaks of cyclosporiasis have been linked to fresh fruits and vegetables, such as lettuce, herbs, and berries.

To reduce risk of cyclosporiasis:

• When appropriate, cook produce to at least 158°F.
· Wash all produce thoroughly under running water.
· Buy whole heads of lettuce and leafy greens rather than pre-washed, bagged lettuce or salad mixes.
· Throw away the outer two or three layers of leaves and wash the inner leaves under running water.
· Always wash your hands before preparing food and before eating.

🚑 New Funding Opportunity: From Crisis to Care – EMS Transformation

The Kentucky Rural Health Transformation program is supporting EMS agencies in expanding care options for rural communities.

Funding and technical assistance are available for agencies interested in:

✔️ Treat-No-Transport protocols
✔️ Transport to Alternative Destinations
✔️ Connecting patients to the right care, without unnecessary ER visits

This initiative helps EMS clinicians resolve appropriate calls on scene and improve patient care pathways across rural Kentucky.
