Most people don’t randomly decide to start therapy.

They think about it for a while.

It shows up in small ways:

“Maybe I should talk to someone”
“Something feels off”
“I probably shouldn’t ignore this”

And then it fades.

Life gets busy.
The shift starts.
You move on.

That doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth paying attention to.

👉 If that thought has been coming back, this might be your sign.

If you want to see what therapy is actually like (before making any decisions), I put something together here:

If you’ve been following along the past few weeks and something has resonated…

burnout
sleep issues
calls that stick with you
feeling off, but not sure why

you don’t have to keep carrying it on your own.

Reaching out doesn’t mean something is wrong with you.
It just means you’re paying attention.

As a firefighter-paramedic turned therapist, I understand both sides of this.

If you’re ready—or even just considering it—
you can start with a conversation.

If you’re in EMS and feeling more stressed, more on edge, or more worn down than usual—you’re not alone.

This job asks a lot, and it doesn’t always show on the surface.

Therapy isn’t about stepping away from the work—it’s about having a place to process what comes with it.

During EMS Week, a lot of people say thank you—and that matters.

But there’s another side of this work that often goes unseen.

The calls that stay with you.
The stress that doesn’t fully reset.
The things you carry without talking about.

Over time, that adds up.

You don’t have to wait until it becomes overwhelming to get support.

EMS Week usually focuses on what people see:

The response.
The professionalism.
The ability to handle chaos when other people can’t.

But there’s another side of the job that often stays invisible.

The calls that follow you home.
The moments that don’t sit right.
The exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fully fix.

A lot of people in EMS carry those things longer than they realize.

If that sounds familiar, there’s nothing wrong with you.

This work affects people.

And support doesn’t have to wait until things fall apart.

If you’ve been thinking about talking to someone, this might be your sign.

I hear this a lot:

“I don’t want to explain everything from scratch.”

That hesitation is real.

When the work you do is intense, fast-paced, and sometimes hard to put into words,
it matters who you’re sitting across from.

You shouldn’t have to translate the job just to be understood.

As a firefighter-paramedic, I’ve been in that environment—and now I help others work through what comes with it.

If you’ve been on the fence about reaching out, this might be a different kind of conversation than you’re expecting.

A lot of first responders don’t go to therapy.

And it’s not because they don’t need it.

It’s usually because:

“Therapists don’t get the job”
Concerns about confidentiality
A culture of handling things yourself

That mindset makes sense.

It’s part of the work.

But that doesn’t mean you have to carry everything on your own.

👉 If you’ve been hesitant, you’re not the only one.

I put something together that walks through what therapy is actually like:

“No one outside the job gets it.”

That’s one of the biggest reasons people don’t reach out.

And honestly—
that concern makes sense.

A lot of first responders avoid therapy.

Not because they don’t need it—
but because they’re not sure someone outside the job will actually get it.

The culture is different.
The calls are different.
The way you learn to handle things is different.

So the hesitation makes sense.

Concerns about confidentiality.
Not wanting to look weak.
Being used to handling it yourself.

None of that is random.

That’s exactly why working with someone who understands the job matters.

Most first responders are trained to push through.

That works—until it doesn’t.

By the time a lot of people reach out, they’ve been dealing with it for months… sometimes years.

You don’t have to wait that long.

Therapy can be a place to:

Catch things early
Make sense of what you’re noticing
Stay ahead of burnout instead of reacting to it

As a firefighter-paramedic, I’ve seen how easy it is to put this off.

If something feels off—even a little—it’s worth paying attention to.
