What does Massage look like at Float Yoga of Lancaster in July 2020?
We have pored over the CDC and OSHA recommendations. This information appears to be a week-to-week update—always evolving. While much of it is ambiguous, and a fair amount seems contradictory, it would initially seem as if more is being asked of licensed massage therapists than most of the other state licensed medical professionals who we have consulted.
All of that aside, we have come up with an initial plan that we feel is both SAFE and ETHICAL:
Masks are required to cover the nose & mouth: This applies to therapist and client. Clients will be asked to disinfect their hands and will be given a disposable mask upon arrival.
Your temperature will be taken upon arrival. If your temp is 100°F or more, we will need to reschedule. Additionally, you will be asked the perfunctory COVID-19 exposure questions.
Massage services start Supine (smile up on your back). When you flip to Prone (smile down on your abdomen) you will have the option to remove your mask. There will be extra linen safety measures in place to protect your therapist while you are prone if you choose to remove your mask.
The client has the option to ask the therapist to wear latex-free gloves for the service. Your preference is paramount.
Face muscles will be ignored for the foreseeable future. We will still massage the neck thoroughly.
Therapists will change their masks & ALL CLOTHING between clients.
Your therapist will ALWAYS wash hands thoroughly and change all linens between clients. This is not a new service. We have always implemented sanitary precautions for our clients’ health.
Touch points will be disinfected between clients with CDC-approved cleaning products.
The massage table & face cradle will be stripped down to the vinyl and disinfected between each client.
Our expectations for you as client:
Take your temperature the morning of your appointment. Your therapist will be doing so as well. If either of us has a fever of 100°F or more, call to cancel your service without LATE CANCEL penalties.
Cancel your appointment if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 during the preceding 2 weeks.
Show up wearing a mask that covers your nose & mouth.
Use the online option of paying in advance (unless you have previously purchased a block of services. All gift cards and massage cards are being honored *still ethical*)
Bring a blanket for extra warmth and comfort with draping.
Punctuality: your service starts & ends at your reserved time. You will likely find the door locked until prior to the start of your service.
With all of these guidelines, you may have noticed a great deal MORE is being asked of your therapist; the transition may take some finesse and a period of adjustment. We will be doing our best to keep to our schedule during this transition.
Prices for massage services have been raised to account for the inordinate amount of extra laundry, and the time between clients required for the extra sanitation protocols. The price increase is small. We will not be able to see as many clients each day, however, because we are appropriating more of our time to your safety.
Thanks in advance for your understanding!
Note:
I love what I do. My interaction with our beautiful clients and friends is the best job. Your safety always comes first.
