Being a doula in rural Maine is going to a small, local canoe race and seeing TWO incredible clients also participating. It was a beautiful day for a paddle down the Pleasant River 🛶☀️

Part of the evidence for the effectiveness of doulas is our continuous support. Our shift doesn’t change; we’re there from when you call, through labor, and into your postpartum time. Sometimes that means we’re at births for a really long time, but often in those types of birth experiences, the impact of doulas is even greater.

Today’s story is certainly one of the most surprising birth day parties I’ve supported; middle of the night, on the side of the road, no cell service.

Cathy’s story highlights the challenges of rural, maternal healthcare(and the importance of doulas!), when the few providers in the area aren’t available, it can mean a last minute, big change of plans.

A beautiful baby born into the world with gentle strength and happy tears. A day home with my own babes. A weekend class filled with preparation and great conversation with soon-to-be parents.
