It’s natural perfumery-making day!
This solid perfume formulation came about when I was trying to create an aroma similar to Ester Lauder’s Youth Dew, a perfume my mother loved, along with similar White Shoulders.
In the Aromapsychology class I am taking through Tisserand Institute, we were asked to create a memory box using scent to help connect us to a loved one who had passed. The scent did not need to be an essential oil: it could be their favorite food, something related to a hobby (like the smell of motor oil for someone who is an automotive mechanic) or anything that reminded us of that person.
I don’t own any Ester Lauder Youth Dew. To buy some for the class would have been costly. So I learned a little about the ingredients used in this perfume to create something that, while definitely not an exact duplication, held some of the essence of that aroma.
The blend I created included one of my mother’s favorite soap scents (she adored Yardley’s English Lavender) of lavender, as well as orange, cinnamon, and clove reminiscent of the apple strudel she used to make around the holidays.
I never would have thought to pair a floral oil with cinnamon, but sometimes your intuition takes you in mysterious ways!
The resulting blend has melded for about three weeks, and I actually love it. I’ve made enough to create some solid perfumes, so that you can experience this magical, meaningful blend for yourself.
More pictures to come.
