Some days in recovery are full of good things. Other days, you’re tired, stressed, frustrated, and ready for the day to be over.

Going to bed sober on one of those days? That can be a win.

Recovery Month celebrates recovery as it actually happens—one day, and sometimes one very long day, at a time. 💜

Can the people and places around you make it harder to stay sober?

For Jamie Leibert, the answer was yes. The professional adventure athlete and filmmaker spent years in a cycle of working hard all week and returning every weekend to a social environment where drinking and drug use were the norm.

On the latest episode of Addiction Talk, Jamie talks about eventually realizing that if he wanted his life to change, his environment had to change, too.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families and loved ones whose lives were forever changed, and the first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

We also remember how, in the days that followed, people came together to care for one another through unimaginable grief.

Today, we pause to remember them all.

What if getting treatment didn’t mean putting the rest of your life on hold?

Oxford Treatment Center offers multiple levels of outpatient care, with options that provide structure and support while allowing people to continue living at home or in our supportive sober living environment.

With two outpatient locations and evening IOP available at our Southaven location, there are options for people who need treatment to work around jobs, school, or other responsibilities.

Keisha Wynn, American Addiction Centers' Sr. Director of Outpatient Operations, explains what a typical day in IOP looks like and how those three hours of programming are structured.

A relapse doesn't always begin with a return to use. The mindset can start shifting well before that.

Tomorrow, AAC Thrive is taking a closer look at the thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that can signal trouble and how recognizing them earlier can give you a chance to respond.

Recovery takes work. Sometimes, so does rest.

Slowing down can be uncomfortable when being still means sitting with thoughts and feelings you once tried to escape.

Learning how to do that without reaching for something to numb them can be part of recovery, too.

This Labor Day, here’s to the work that doesn’t always look like work. 💜

Why can fame at an early age leave such lasting effects?

From Hayden Panettiere and Drew Barrymore to Demi Lovato, several former child stars have spoken publicly about struggles with substance use and mental health later in life.

A recent BBC News article looks at what can happen when fame, pressure and adult responsibilities come before a child has fully developed the tools to navigate them.

Our Medical Director, Dr. Lucas Trautman, contributed his clinical perspective on the connection between childhood fame, trauma, and substance use, and why those early experiences can continue to have an impact long after childhood.

What happens in childhood can shape how we learn to cope long after we grow up.

In our latest episode of Addiction Talk, Jamie Leibert reflects on growing up with trauma, abandonment, abuse, and addiction in his family, and how those experiences contributed to his own struggles with drugs and alcohol.

For Jamie, understanding those connections became part of understanding himself, taking accountability, and ultimately choosing a different path.
