Johnson Memorial Gardens
On National Cremation Placement Day, we reflect on the comfort a permanent resting place can bring—a peaceful place to visit, leave flowers, share memories, and feel close to someone deeply missed. Choosing a lasting home for a loved one’s precious ashes can also begin a meaningful family tradition, creating a place where family members can rest together and future generations can honor their shared history. At Johnson Memorial Gardens, we are honored to help families preserve these connections with compassion, dignity, and care.

There is a poem that has been read at military funerals for generations:
Do not stand at my grave and weep —
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry —
I am not there. I did not die.
They say a man hasn't truly died as long as he is remembered.

🇺🇸 The flag doesn’t fly because the wind blows. It flies because generations of Americans gave everything to keep it flying.

Every ripple in the Stars and Stripes is a reminder of courage. Every fold tells a story of sacrifice. Every sunrise it greets is another day made possible by those who never came home.

At Taps for Veterans, we believe remembrance is more than a moment—it is a promise.

That promise is fulfilled each time a live bugler sounds the 24 notes of Taps over a veteran’s final resting place. Those notes are the voice of a grateful nation, honoring lives lived in service and sacrifices that can never be repaid.

Today, when you see our flag waving, remember what keeps it aloft. Not just the wind…But the courage, sacrifice, and final breath of America’s fallen heroes.
🇺🇸 May we never forget.

Hidden within Oakwood Cemetery in Lanett, Alabama, the Playhouse Grave of Nadine Earles is one of America's most touching memorials. Nadine died from diphtheria in 1933 at just four years old, only days before Christmas. Heartbroken that she never received the dollhouse she had wished for, her father built a small brick playhouse over her grave. Inside, he placed her favorite dolls, toys, and a tiny tea set, while her headstone was designed to resemble a child's bed. Today, Nadine's parents rest nearby, and the city continues to care for the playhouse, often decorating it for the changing seasons, preserving the memory of a little girl whose Christmas wish was never forgotten.
