Never judge a book by its cover.
If you met my husband you’d probably think he was one of the healthiest people in the room. He’s strong, active, works full time, is in college, Pastor’s our church and always has a smile on his face. But what most people don’t see is that he’s living with critical aortic valve failure.
In the coming weeks, he’ll be undergoing a Ross procedure…a highly specialized open heart surgery that will replace two heart valves. It’s a long and complex operation and while we’re incredibly thankful it’s an option but I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a little fear. We were offered to go to NY for it but unfortunately his insurance wouldn’t cover it because it can be offered in Maine. Typically you want a surgeon that does 25 of these a year due to the complexity…his has done 14. This surgery is typically only offered to healthy individuals/athletes under the age of 50 that need a heart valve replacement. 1.9% don’t survive the surgery…I trust the Lord completely but I’m also human. It’s a lot to carry when it’s the person you love most.
I’m constantly amazed by him. Most people never see him quietly pressing his fist against his chest after preaching, trying to relieve the pressure or the deep fatigue he pushes through EVERY SINGLE day just to keep serving, working, and loving people well.
I don’t normally share things this personal any more (taken a step back from social media) but I know so many of you love the Lord and I believe in the power of prayer. Would you please pray for Rob and for my kids? Pray for wisdom and steady hands for the surgical team, pray that they can do plan an and not plan b during his surgery, for a successful surgery and for God’s peace for our family.
No matter what lies ahead, we know God is good, He is faithful and our lives are safely in His hands.
