Masking is when we hide parts of who we really are so we can fit in, avoid judgment, or make other people comfortable.
Sometimes we smile when we’re struggling, say “I’m fine” when we’re not, or change the way we act because we’re afraid of being misunderstood.
The hard part is that masking can become exhausting. ❤️

Your weekends are their childhood. ❤️
One day, the little hands reaching for you will be bigger. The voices calling, “Mom! Dad!” will be quieter. And the moments you sometimes wish you could slow down will be the memories you’d give anything to relive.
They won’t remember the spotless house, the long to-do list, or all the things that could wait until Monday.
They’ll remember the Saturday mornings together. The family breakfasts. The messy adventures. The laughter in the car.The bedtime stories. The simple moments when they had your undivided attention.
Childhood doesn’t ask for perfect parents. It asks for present parents.
So put the phone down. Say yes to the extra game. Take the walk. Make the pancakes. Stay a little longer at the playground.
Because to you, it’s just another weekend.
To them, it’s their childhood. ❤️
Make the memories count.

There's a big difference between suppressing emotions and regulating emotions—and understanding it can change the way we care for our mental health.
Suppressing emotions means pushing them away, pretending they're not there, or convincing yourself you shouldn't feel them. It may help you get through the moment, but those emotions often resurface later in unexpected ways.
Emotional regulation means acknowledging your feelings without letting them control your actions. It's recognizing, "I'm feeling angry, sad, anxious, or overwhelmed," and choosing a healthy response instead of reacting impulsively.
Regulating your emotions doesn't mean you never feel difficult emotions. It means learning to experience them, understand what they're telling you, and respond in ways that align with your values and goals.
You don't have to ignore your emotions to be strong. Sometimes, true strength is allowing yourself to feel them and responding with intention rather than avoidance.

Today marks the start of a new school year for most students in Indian River County. With a new school year can come anxiety, and that is completely normal.
Parents, be aware of signs that your child may be struggling with anxiety—fast talking, avoiding questions, complaining of a stomachache, becoming unusually quiet or irritable, and more.
Try to be there. Listen. Validate their feelings. Remember, you were once their age, too.
Right now, they need support, not judgment. They need to know that their feelings are heard, that they are safe, and that they don't have to navigate those big emotions alone.
I hope everyone has a safe, positive, and as calm-as-possible first day of school. ❤️📚
You've got this, parents—and so do our kids!

What to look for in a therapist? 🤍
Not every therapist is the right fit—and that's okay.
The most important thing is the connection. You should feel heard, understood, respected, and safe. Research consistently shows that the relationship between you and your therapist is one of the biggest factors in successful therapy.
If you don't feel comfortable opening up, the real work becomes much harder.
It's okay to ask questions, try a few sessions, or even switch therapists until you find someone who feels like the right fit. Finding the right therapist isn't about finding the "best" therapist—it's about finding the best therapist for you.
Healing starts with trust. đź’™

Hi! Allow me to re-introduce myself, my name is Rachel Toperzer. I was born and raised in Lynchburg, Va. but I've called Vero Beach home since 2015; when I moved after graduating college to assist in caring for my grandmother. I grew up visiting the area to see my grandparents and have always loved our little town. I met my now husband not long after moving, and we couldn't think of a better place to raise our kids.

As the mom of two toddlers, I can understand and appreciate the challenges that come with raising them. Why is my child behaving like this? Why does my child have anger outbursts? Can my child have anxiety even if they are four? I believe the earlier you can teach your child emotional regulation skills, coping strategies, how to learn and identify possible triggers, etc., the more success your child will have in life.

I specialize in providing infant, early childhood, and adolescent mental health therapy services. I primarily help children who suffer from trauma, anxiety, and/or depression. I provide caregivers with support and skills to help them parent and work with their child’s unique needs. Life is chaotic and often difficult to understand. I help children learn and appreciate their big emotions. Trauma can look different in all children. With the right tools, you and your child can recover and learn to move forward from it.

Children don't need to be taught to never feel big emotions—they need to be taught what to do with them.
Emotional regulation is a skill that develops over time through patience, connection, and practice. When we help children name their feelings, validate their emotions, and model healthy coping strategies, we're giving them tools that will last a lifetime.

Instead of asking, "Why are you acting this way?" try asking, "What are you feeling, and how can I help?"

Every calm moment you create today helps build resilience for tomorrow. đź’›

Kids aren't just resilient—they hold things in.
We often praise children for how "well" they're doing after difficult experiences, but what we don't always see is how much they're carrying beneaththe surface. Children adapt because they have to. They learn to read the room, stay quiet, push through, and keep going. Sometimes they don't have the words to explain what they're feeling. Sometimes they believe no one will understand. And sometimes they stay silent because they don't want to make life harder for the people they love.
Resilience doesn't mean a child wasn't hurt. It doesn't mean they weren't scared, confused, or overwhelmed. It simply means they found a way to survive with the tools they had.
The effects of those unspoken emotions don'talways disappear. They can show up years later as anxiety, perfectionism, difficulty trusting others, people-pleasing, emotional withdrawal, or a constant feeling of needing to be "okay" for everyone else.
Every child deserves more than being told they're strong. They deserve to feel safe enough to be honest about their fears, supported enough toexpress their emotions, and loved enough to know they don't have to carry everything alone.
Let's stop assuming that a quiet child is an unaffected child. Sometimes the strongest kids are simply the ones who learned to carry the heaviest burdens without anyone noticing.

Therapy takes time and consistency. It isn't fast, and there are no instant fixes. Healing happens one conversation, one breakthrough, and one small step at a time.
Progress isn't always obvious, but every effort matters. Keep showing up for yourself. The work you put in today can lead to meaningful, lasting change tomorrow. đź’™
