Stop waiting until it gets bad.

We have to talk about accountability when it comes to our health, all of it.

Mental health. Physical health. Dental health. Sexual health. Emotional health. Preventive care. All of it matters.

Sometimes we know something doesn’t feel right, but we keep putting it off. We ignore the pain. We normalize being exhausted. We keep saying, “I’ll make the appointment later.” We avoid the dentist because it’s been too long. We skip the annual exam because we feel fine. We notice changes in our mood, sleep, appetite, body, or behavior and convince ourselves we can just push through.

Until we can’t.

Accountability isn’t about shaming yourself for what you haven’t done. It’s about being willing to say, “My health is my responsibility, and I need to pay attention to it.”

That can look like:

- Taking your mental health seriously before you reach a crisis.
- Attending scheduled mental health appointments.
- Asking questions when you don’t understand something.
- Scheduling routine medical and dental appointments.
- Paying attention when your body feels different.
- Taking medications as prescribed and discussing concerns with your provider instead of making changes on your own.
- Getting recommended screenings and preventive care.
- Being honest with your healthcare providers even when it’s uncomfortable.
- Following up instead of assuming “no news is good news.”

And yes, access to healthcare, finances, insurance, fear, previous negative experiences, and other barriers are very real. Accountability does not mean pretending those barriers don’t exist.

It means doing what you reasonably can with what you have and advocating for yourself when you need help.

You do not have to become obsessed with every symptom or assume something is wrong. But you do deserve to be attentive to yourself.

Your health shouldn’t only become a priority when your body or mind forces you to stop.

Make the appointment. Ask the question. Get the checkup. Have the uncomfortable conversation. Follow up.

Taking care of yourself includes taking responsibility for yourself. 💚

“I slept eight hours last night, so why am I still exhausted?”If you’ve ever asked yourself that question, you’re not alone. Many people assume that rest simply means getting enough sleep. While sleep is incredibly important, it’s only one form of rest. You can get a full night’s sleep an...
