Across the country, Home Instead teams are showing up with purpose at Walk to End Alzheimer’s events—walking in honor of loved ones, supporting families and raising critical funds for the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. 💜

We are proud to partner with the ’sAssociation as a Walk to End Alzheimer’s Gold National Team. Together, Home Instead has raised more than $5.7 million over the past 18 years, including $258,000 last year alone, to advance Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

This year, we are well on our way to reaching our goal—and every donation and every step makes a meaningful difference. Thank you to every Care Pro, office team member, client, family member and community partner who walks, fundraises and helps move this mission forward.

When searching for a senior living community, touring more than one place can make all the difference.

Look beyond the amenities and notice the everyday interactions: Do team members know residents by name? Do they speak directly to the person who may live there? Does the community feel warm, personal and welcoming?

In this Caregiver Chats clip, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole Will share why comparing communities can help families find the right fit for their loved one.

One tour rarely tells the whole story.

When you’re exploring senior living options for someone you love, visit more than one community—and pay attention to the details that reveal how people are truly cared for.

Are residents greeted by name? Are conversations warm and personal? Does the team speak directly to the older adult, not just their family?

Sometimes the clearest answer comes from comparing how each place feels.

Touring senior living communities for a loved one? Look beyond the scheduled visit.

In this clip from Caregiver Chats, Nicole Will shares why it can be helpful to stop by at a different time—like an evening or weekend—and notice the everyday experience. Are residents interacting naturally? Do team members seem calm, attentive and familiar with the people they support?

The right community is about more than the building. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel connected, valued and at home.

A scheduled tour can show you the highlights. An unscheduled visit can show you everyday life.

When you’re considering a senior living community for someone you love, Nicole Will suggests stopping by at a different time—an evening or weekend—and paying attention to what you see.

Are residents connecting? Does the team seem calm and engaged? Do people know one another by name?

It’s not just about finding a place to live. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel known, connected and at home.

When families begin exploring senior living, it’s easy to focus on the building first: the amenities, the dining room, the activity calendar.

But as Nicole Will () reminds us, the better place to begin is with the person.

What brings your loved one joy? Where do they find purpose? What kind of connection will help them feel known and at home?

In this episode of Caregiver Chats, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole share a more person-centered way to approach one of caregiving’s biggest decisions.

Alzheimer’s doesn’t stay home when the workday begins. Proud to be a corporate supporter of www.alzca.org Melanie did a great job presenting!

Alzheimer’s doesn’t stay at home when the workday begins. It affects employees, family caregivers, and the workplaces that depend on them.

What a treat to speak at today’s October Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce gathering about “When Alzheimer’s Comes to Work.” Nearly 100 people joined us to learn practical guidance, workplace support strategies, and resources for employees and family caregivers.

Thank you to Home Instead , Touching Hearts at Home Birmingham, Golden Rule BBQ & Grill and Susan DuBose for sponsoring this important conversation!

💚 Plan Today for Tomorrow — Long-Term Care Planning
No one loves thinking about needing extra help someday—but having a plan can give you and your family more choices, more confidence, and greater peace of mind. 💚
Long-term care planning isn’t just about where you might live. It’s about thinking ahead about how you want to live, who you want involved, and what matters most to you.
A few things to consider:
• 🏡 Talk about your wishes. Would you prefer to remain at home as you age? Share your priorities with family now.
• 💰 Understand the costs. Learn what Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, and personal savings may—or may not—cover.
• 📄 Get important documents in order. Review your will, power of attorney, healthcare directives, and other important information.
• 🤝 Build your support team. Identify family, friends, professionals, and care resources you could turn to if needs change.
• 🩺 Think about future care needs. Consider transportation, medication reminders, meals, personal care, companionship, and home safety.
• ❤️ Start the conversation early. Planning before there’s a crisis allows everyone to make thoughtful decisions together.
At Home Instead, we believe aging should be filled with choice, dignity, independence, and connection. A little planning today can help make that possible tomorrow. 💚💛

💚 October — Emotional Wellness Month
A healthy mind and a happy heart matter at every age. 💚
October is Emotional Wellness Month—a reminder to take care of ourselves emotionally just as we do physically.
For older adults, emotional wellness can be strengthened through simple things: meaningful conversation, staying connected with family and friends, getting outside, enjoying a favorite activity, and having something to look forward to.
And sometimes, one of the greatest gifts is simply having someone there. ❤️ Our Home Instead Care Professionals provide more than assistance with everyday tasks—they offer companionship, encouragement, laughter, and a listening ear.
To our Care Professionals: your emotional wellness matters, too! Take time to rest, recharge, connect with people you love, and give yourself the same kindness you so freely give others.
Small moments of connection can make a BIG difference. 💚💛
