The FDA just approved Utebzi, the first oral carbapenem antibiotic in the U.S. and the big takeaway is that some patients may have an oral option when they otherwise might need IV antibiotics.

Less IV therapy could mean fewer infusion barriers, less hospital time for some patients, and more flexibility when culture results show it’s appropriate.

Still not for every UTI (we don’t need antibiotic resistance)

FDA Recall Alert 🚨

A commonly prescribed antidepressant, duloxetine (generic Cymbalta), has been recalled after testing found elevated levels of N-nitroso-duloxetine, a nitrosamine impurity.

Nitrosamines are compounds that can form during the manufacturing process and are classified as probable human carcinogens when exposure exceeds established safety limits over long periods of time. The recall was issued out of caution because some lots exceeded the FDA’s acceptable daily intake limit.
