Overwhelm and chaos are common experiences for survivors of complex trauma, often reflecting deeper internal conflicts and unknown and unprocessed emotional pain.
In this June Insights webinar, we will explore how to discern true overwhelm from trauma-related flooding, understand the internal dynamics that drive chaotic presentations, and reframe these moments as meaningful communication rather than dysfunction.
Through clinical teaching and advanced vignettes, we will examine how the therapist-client relationship can either escalate or stabilize chaos, and introduce practical ways to co-regulate while supporting the development of internal communication—what we describe as moving from “paper balls” to the language of the heart.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
✅ Differentiate between overwhelm, flooding, and dissociative collapse in trauma survivors
✅ Identify core internal dynamics (e.g., dissociation, internal conflict, shame, attachment fear) that contribute to chaotic presentations
✅ Recognize common therapeutic responses that unintentionally escalate chaos or reinforce internal fragmentation
✅ Apply relational, co-regulatory interventions that promote safety without suppressing internal experience
✅ Conceptualize chaos as meaningful internal communication rather than pathology
✅ Utilize clinical language and interventions that support emerging internal awareness and integration
✅ Respond effectively to complex clinical scenarios using trauma-informed, parts-aware approaches

Internal conflict in DID systems often doesn’t sound like arguing — it feels like overwhelm, urgency, or the need to get away from yourself.

This session reframes those moments as meaningful shifts, not setbacks. When survivors can stay with even a small amount of that tension, they begin to build regulation, deepen internal trust, and support more integrated thinking.

Conflict isn’t the problem — avoiding it is.

Join us as we explore these push–pull dynamics and offer grounded, practical ways to support survivors through these pivotal moments.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

✅ Identify how internal conflict in dissociative systems presents through emotional dysregulation, overwhelm, and avoidance of internal awareness.
✅ Explain how conditioned survival pathways are reinforced through automatic responses to internal distress.
✅ Recognize fear of self—particularly toward internal child parts—as a protective response within the internal system.
✅ Describe how increasing a survivor’s capacity to tolerate internal discomfort supports movement away from conditioned survival pathways and toward increased regulation and internal stability.
✅ Demonstrate understanding of how self-compassion and internal curiosity support rehumanization and greater internal cooperation.

May 11, 2026 – Internal Conflicts

Internal conflict in a DID system rarely looks like “parts arguing.” More often, it shows up as intolerable angst, sudden overwhelm, or the urgent need to escape yourself. In this powerful session, we will explore what is really happening in those moments — and why they are not signs of failure, but signs of movement toward healing. When survivors learn to hold the tension of conflict — even briefly — they begin strengthening regulation, internal trust, and integrated thinking. Conflict is not the enemy. Avoidance is.

Join us as we unpack the push–pull dynamics within dissociative systems and offer grounded, practical strategies for supporting survivors at these critical turning points.

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
✅Identify how internal conflict in dissociative systems presents through emotional dysregulation, overwhelm, and avoidance of internal awareness.
✅Explain how conditioned survival pathways are reinforced through automatic responses to internal distress.
✅Recognize fear of self—particularly toward internal child parts—as a protective response within the internal system.
✅Describe how increasing a survivor’s capacity to tolerate internal discomfort supports movement away from conditioned survival pathways and toward increased regulation and internal stability.
✅Demonstrate understanding of how self-compassion and internal curiosity support rehumanization and greater internal cooperation.
