I imagine this will be quite the sight as the community comes out to pay their respects.

This is a powerful and somber time to bring your family out and line the streets of Greenfield along the path to pay your respects and remember what it means to be a civil servant, and the sacrifices that come along with that.

My family will be attending the funeral as captain Whitney is my husband‘s uncle, but even if we did not know him personally we would be there standing on the street to pay our respects.

If you are available on Sunday afternoon, I encourage you to consider lining the path from the fire station to the church.

We welcome any and all who want to honor Captain Whitney on August 2nd, alongside the Whitney family. Attending neighboring departments are invited to participate in the honor formation along the Town Common. The public is invited to view the uniformed marching procession (begins at 1:30pm) along Main Street as Captain Whitney is escorted to Second Congregational Church.

Today’s adventure. Field trip to see the 2 Hannah Dustin statues. One in Boscawan NH the the other in Haverhill MA.

We live in a time where people are trying to erase history. Both monuments have already been vandalized in the past and there have been talks of removal or modification. So we found it important to visit these sites in person before it’s no longer an option.

Hannah Dustin lived in the 16 and 1700’s…. A brutal time for natives and settlers. War, bloodshed and heinous acts committed by both sides….

Hannah lived in Haverhill with her husband and many children. March 15, 1697 Hannahs village was raided by the Abanaki. She was 40 years old and had just given birth days before. She, her nurse and her infant were taken in the raid and held captive. I will spare you the gory and horrifying details, but her baby was killed right in front of her on their journey north as prisoners.
As a mother, I cannot imagine the horror… had just given birth, was kidnapped, watched her baby be brutally murdered, and did not know if her husband and multiple other children survived the raid ….

Hannah was fierce, a warrior in her own right. Just 15 days after her capture, she along with two other captives, escaped. She killed her captors, got a canoe and escape to safety with her nurse, and the young man that was also held captive from a previous raid.

As a mother, I cannot imagine the horror and pain this woman went through. She escaped down river back to Haverhill to find that miraculously her husband was able to save all of the other children during the raid.
She lived to be 80 years old and after her death 2 statues were resurrected in the late 1700s in her memory. One in Haverhill MA and one in Boscowen, New Hampshire, where the escape was believed to have happened on an island in the Merrimack river.

Today we went to both of these statues. We have studied Hannah for sometime now and while the story might make people uncomfortable it’s reality, it’s history and history can be brutal. That does not mean it should be erased or forgotten because it might hurt somebody’s feelings or make somebody uncomfortable. When we erase history, we don’t learn from it.

Aside from this beings interesting and fairly local history there’s another special connection for us, particularly my husband and my children.
They are related to Hannah. It’s all broken down in a family tree that I’d like to see someday.

While my heart breaks for all of the native and settler lives that were lost during many bloody battles during this time, I can’t help but sympathize and understand why Hannah did what she did. In fact I’d like to think that if God forbid I was ever in the same situation I would be just as fierce as she and I would do the same because that’s what a mother does for her children.

I often find myself explaining to people that we don’t follow the regular school year calendar and we don’t homeschool only Monday through Friday from 8 to 3… we are very flexible with our schedule and end up getting a lot more “school time” in than the state required 180 days/ 900 hours… we homeschool year round.

example. It is summer vacation and it is WAY PAST bedtime but this little one would not put her math book down tonight. I didn’t tell her she had to do math. She chose to do
Math tonight. She is excited because she just learned some new concepts. It’s so cool to see the excitement when a new skill clicks and when they find learning fun, not just a chore.

* she does not get her love of math from me. Math is my very least favorite subject to teach so I’m glad she’s a natural. That should make life easier for both of us 😂

Anyone else have a math wiz? Or a kid who stays up late to do schoolwork for fun ? 😆

I thought that it would be a good idea today to pull everything off of our school shelf and out of our school area and start sorting it and organizing it…. Now that everything is off the shelf I’m regretting my decision, but it’s too late to turn back now. I have to fully commit to this project or we can’t use our kitchen table 😆🤦🏻‍♀️

I keep this sign above our school shelf as a reminder of why I do what I do…. some days it would be so much easier just to ship them off to public school, Have a clean house and free time. … it would be easier, but it wouldn’t be worth it.💕

Here is your friendly reminder that most pics on social media are fake with captions that make you think people’s lives are perfect…. News flash, people lie or only post the hi lights. This pic right here is real life ….. we are trying to do something fun but the kids are beings awful and the parents are miserable 😆🤷🏻‍♀️😜…

Help my daughter and I collect some data!

We were having a conversation in the car today and giggling and thought it would be fun to hear what other people would choose!

The question is :
What food would you eat if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life?

*Don’t overthink this. This is a perfect world where nutrition is not an issue and no matter what you choose to eat it will be perfectly balanced nutritionally, even if it’s junk food.

Our answers are in a comments .

Please put your answer in the comments below, so she can start collecting and analyzing the data📊🍽️😁

We spend so much time at the local lake in the summer. Water soothes my soul and I need to be in it or near it all the time. And both of my kids are water babies too!

We’re lucky enough to live less than 10 minutes from one of our favorite swimming spots so many nights after dinner we head to the lake for a quick dip.

Tonight it was 64° but they wanted to go swimming so we went… it was chilly and the water was warmer than the air, but we had fun! And look at that sunset🌅

The Warwick Community school is holding a fundraiser this Saturday! They have big plans for the the playground!

Fun, food, and board games! At the town hall from 2-4 on Saturday the 13th.

The plans look great. Yes, I have expressed my concerns over the removal of the swings, and I’ve been told that many others have expressed the same concerns and that they are planning to keep the swings after all, they’re just not depicted in this current map.

Big things are happening and have happened in this little town. There isn’t another place quite like Warwick. I’ve never seen people come forward and fight so hard for their kids and their community like we do here in Warwick! Whether you homeschool or public school, you will be able to use this playground and it will benefit the entire community.

I know when my kids were little we spent a lot of time in the evenings and on weekends at the Warwick community school playing on the playground. Both of my kids learn to ride their bikes in the parking lot there and we’ve made many memories. This is not just a school it is a community hub and it should be supported by all in our community.💕
