We’re so excited to partner with ETSS Tewahedo Social Services’ Youth Enrichment Summer Camp Program to bring much-needed eye care to campers in Franklin County.

Central Ohio ODs: We’re currently looking for volunteers to help provide clinics at Emerald Glen Apartments from July 27–30.

👁️🕷️ Not every “foreign body” is what you’d expect…

This patient came in with irritation and something that just didn’t feel right. A closer look at the slit lamp revealed the culprit: a tick attached to the eyelid.

Ticks can attach anywhere on the body—including around the eyes. Symptoms may include:
• Redness or irritation
• Swelling of the eyelid
• A foreign body sensation
• Tearing or discomfort

Prompt removal is important to reduce the risk of infection and potential transmission of tick-borne illnesses. Using magnification at the slit lamp allows for careful removal while minimizing trauma to the delicate eyelid tissue.

If you’ve spent time outdoors and notice persistent eyelid irritation or an unusual bump, don’t ignore it. Your optometrist can evaluate the area and determine the best course of action.
