Have you been asked if you have a “good baby” yet?

Somewhere along the way, we started measuring how “good” a baby is by how little they need us.

Waking frequently, cluster feeding, wanting to be held, crying when put down…

They’re not a bad baby. They’re just being a baby.

Want to feel more prepared? I’m a pediatric RN + IBCLC offering insurance-covered prenatal breastfeeding classes and feeding + sleep consultations.

Schedule with me through the link in my bio.

Was I patient enough?
Did I play with them enough?
Am I getting any of this right?

Number 2 is a good one!!

Let me explain….

1. GIANT FREEZER STASHES

If you want a freezer stash, great. But you do NOT need hundreds of ounces of breast milk stored away to successfully breastfeed or return to work.

When you return to work, you’re typically pumping while you’re away from your baby to provide milk for future feeds. You need enough to get you through that separation plus some backup, not necessarily a freezer full of milk.

And pumping significantly more than your baby needs just to build a huge stash can sometimes create its own problems: oversupply, engorgement, plugged ducts, and a whole lot of unnecessary pressure.

2. BOTTLES MARKETED AS “BREAST-LIKE”

This marketing gets me every time.

A bottle ni**le can LOOK like a breast and still not encourage the latch or oral mechanics we’re looking for.

I care much more about ni**le shape and flow, your baby’s latch and oral function, and HOW you’re offering the bottle.

Use an appropriate flow, pace the feeding, watch your baby’s cues, and don’t force them to finish the bottle just because there’s milk left.

3. TIMING EVERY BREASTFEEDING SESSION

“10 minutes on this side. 15 minutes on that side.”

But what was your baby actually DOING during those minutes?

A baby can spend 30 minutes at the breast and transfer very little milk, while another baby may have a much more efficient feeding in less time.

Instead of obsessing over the clock, I want you watching your baby.

Are you seeing active, rhythmic sucking? Are you hearing swallowing? Does your baby seem satisfied after feeding? How are diapers and weight gain looking?

The number of minutes your baby spends at the breast doesn’t tell us how much milk they transferred.

The theme here?

You don’t need to do something just because social media has convinced you that every breastfeeding mom should.

5 things I did with my FOURTH baby as a pediatric RN + IBCLC and WHY. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

By baby #4, I knew there were a few things I wanted to be really intentional about during those first weeks:

1. I prioritized feeding + milk removal from the beginning.

Frequent breastfeeding, lots of skin-to-skin, and paying attention to active sucking and swallowing were priorities for me.

I wasn’t just counting how many minutes he spent at the breast, I wanted to know that those feeds were effective.

2. I did NOT put him on a schedule.

Newborn feeding and sleep can be unpredictable, and I expected that.

I watched his hunger cues, fed responsively, and didn’t worry about forcing an eat-play-sleep routine onto a brand-new baby.

There was plenty of time for routines later.

3. I watched diapers, swallowing + weight…. NOT how full my breasts felt.

Breast fullness isn’t a reliable way to determine whether your baby is getting enough milk.

I paid attention to the things that actually gave me information: active swallowing, p*e and p**p diapers, stool transition, feeding effectiveness, and his weight trajectory.

4 things bringing me joy lately — mom + baby edition ⬇️⬇️

1. More moms trusting that feeding to sleep is normal.

2. More parents understanding that their newborn wanting to sleep on them isn’t a “bad habit.”

3. More breastfeeding moms realizing that soft breasts and cluster feeding don’t automatically mean low supply.

4. And MORE moms refusing to participate in bounce-back culture.

You just grew and delivered a whole human. You don’t need to “get your body back.”

Your body never went anywhere.

Feed your baby. Rest. Eat. Heal. Accept the help. Hold the baby. Let yourself be taken care of, too.

Honestly, I’d love to see more of ALL of this.

And if you’re pregnant and want to feel more prepared for those first few days with your baby, I made you a FREE First 72 Hours With Your Baby Guide.

The second you feel like you’ve figured something out… your baby changes. 😅

That’s why I created the Bump to Baby Bundle: one trusted place to prepare for what’s coming next.

10 evidence-based classes covering:

• What to expect in the 3rd Trimester
• Labor & Delivery
• How to Prepare for The 4th Trimester
• Prenatal Breastfeeding
• Newborn Care & Sleep
• Safety, Illnesses & When to Worry
• Pumping, Bottles & Formula Feeding
• Starting Solids
• CPR & Choking
• Baby Sleep: 4–18 Months

And I completely revamped it AND slashed the price to make evidence-based parenting education more accessible.

Know it before you need it. 🤍

PS you can use your HSA/FSA accounts for this!

Your baby doesn’t have to cry to tell you they’re hungry! ⬇️⬇️

In fact, crying is one of the last hunger cues we want to wait for.

Before the cry, your newborn has been telling you they’re ready to eat by:

•Waking or stirring
•Closing their fists
•Turning their head
•Rooting
•Opening and closing their mouth
•Bringing their hands toward their mouth
•Squirming or increasing movement
•Starting to vocalize

The earlier you recognize those cues, the easier it can be to bring a calm, organized baby to the breast and get a good latch.

And if you miss them and baby is already crying? You didn’t miss your chance.

Soothe first. Hold them close, rock them, try skin-to-skin, and help their little body settle. Then try the breast again. 🤍

Learning to feed your newborn is really about learning their language.

Hot take: your baby doesn’t have to hate sleep.

My 17 month old LOVES his naps. No fighting. No dread. He is READY for that crib 😂

Naps and bedtime don’t have to be a battle.

Although sometimes I’m like… sir, could you at least pretend you want to snuggle your mother for another 5 minutes?! 😭

hi! I’m Tiffany pediatric RN and IBCLC and you could have an insurance covered feeding and Sleep consult with me!

Comment “NAP” to schedule a free call with me and let’s talk about what’s going on with your little one’s sleep.

All my friends that have a baby get this text that says:

“I’m bringing you dinner tonight. You can choose spaghetti & meatballs or chicken tacos. If you don’t answer, I will choose for you and bring it over anyway.”

And then I DROP IT OFF AND LEAVE.

I am not coming inside to hold your baby while you entertain me.

I am not expecting you to clean your house.

I am not sitting on your couch for 3 hours.

I am dropping off enough food to feed your family and getting out of there. 😂

Now, if you want me to come in and entertain your older kids while you shower, nap, feed the baby, or stare silently at a wall?

SAY LESS.

I will be on the floor playing Magna-Tiles in 30 seconds.

My postpartum love language is aggressively removing things from your to-do list without making you manage me.

And for the love of goodness, please don’t send the text that says “let me know if you need anything”.

That requires HER to figure out what she needs, decide what I can help with, and then ASK me to do it.

No ❤️

Pick something helpful. And do it. 🫶🏻
